Hmm I don't think I have any sort of fish that you don't have so it must be ok . And all my corals are soft, and there aren't many.

( darth vader voice) Mitch.. join me on the darkside of the reef. Sell your equipment and go algae scrubber. Together we will rid your reef of nitrates and annoying water changes (clutches fist).

Noooooooo, that's not true (said in Luke's voice). I'm also thinking about this too. I just have to see how I'm going to put it together in the sump I have already. The way it's set up I have perfect room for the skimmer and reactor for bio pellets or GFO/carbon.

It's time for me to get new bulbs. Would my fish be ok with all blue and purple? I love blue! It would save me having to try to duplicate what's in there too. Not all of them are marked.

it brings out some colors in my fish I didn't even knew they had. My flame angel looks like he's on fire (no pun intended). My pajama cardinal looks like I'm triping on acid with all the groovy colors popping out. You will not regret it

An all Blue selection of bulbs will give you a look you may desire but in reality all living things in your tank require a full spectrum of light to remain healthy. With any particular nano meter range deprived you may find that your fish and corals (Even LPS and Softies may suffer from your experiment) I would advise against this approach but it's your choice, Happy Reefing!

i think they are enjoying the dawn/dusk blue look... when the entire fixture is on, its definetly whiter with a touch of blue... the bulb combination they are speaking off consists of blue, white, and purple....

Here's another opinion, since I run just about everything by my friend Joe

Hi Tina,

If you like the blue color use the aquablue (will give you a blue white color and can be used as a stand alone blub), blue plus (brings out the blue colors in SPS corals and fluorescence) and purple (will bring out the pinks, purples and reds in corals) and for growth one yellow (6.5k). If fast growth is not a concern the aquablue, blue plus and purple are just fine or just the aquablue(blue white color) .
When I used MH lighting all I used were 20K (actinic blue) blubs. I liked the overall blue color of the tank, the colors my sps were greatly improved and growth was ok but not fast. I wasn't looking for fast growth just great coral color.

If it was my tank, I would use aquablue, blue plus and just one purple. e.g. for a 4 bulb setup = 1-aquablue, 2-blue plus and 1-purple, for 6 bulb setup = 2-aquablue, 3-blue plus and 1-purple.

Hope this helps and as always Just My Opinion

Joe

So the white you are seeing when they're all on comes from the aquablues then?

correct, the blue + are blue but not like a solid blue, the aquablue special (12k) is the white light. on my 6 bulb, i have the purple and and blue+ as my dusk dawn and everything else comes on later. i will try to post some FTS later this evening for pic comparison to mitches. i will take pic of dusk/dawn, all lights, and then none dusk/dawn bulbs

Tina, it really isn't all that blue. I have an aquablue special which gives me 10K or 12K I think so I have a pretty full coverage of the spectrum. The ATI names their stuff blue but it's not just all blue color. As for growth the ATI blue+ has the highest par of any bulbs, the aquablue special does too and the purple plus just brings out other colors like your friend stated.
