Talk me out of UV

This is from four years ago during initial set up. On there on the top there’s a annoying bacteria bloom that wouldn’t be such a big deal in a smaller tank and on the second picture 24 hours later once I turned the UV on.

Park your tank next to a bright open window and let us know how that natural UV works out for you.

Not related to the UV discussion but some people do this, some have skylights for the tank :)

I believe the limiting factor becomes nutrients to keep algae under control in those or perhaps just a lot of herbivores.

This one comes to mind


Again not related, I don’t think a skylight is the same as a UV sterilizer.
