Can anyone show me pictures of how they have their UV sterilizer plumbed?

Is it as important as I am reading to have a separate return line to the bottom of your display tank and one at the top to optimize water turnover

Or can I hook up a small pump after my filter socks in my sump and then have a return line right into the return pump in my return chamber

Or is there a way that I’m not even thinking about?

I'm in the planning stages of this right now. The questions of:
--usefulness
--installation orientation (vertical or horizontal)
--output goes back directly through return line or back to return line portion of sump
--output getting routed through (before or after) a refugium (internal or external)
Watching to see what folks share in their experiences.
Many tanks!

Will try to answer best as possible, but there are variables.

Always start with following the manufacturers direct instructions on how to plumb and mount their specific units.
Some brands can mount vertical, some can not.
The best most efficient use of UV is after all filtration plumbed directly into the return line to the tank. Recirculating in the sum is way less efficient.
The Hobby is split on usefulness. Some say its harmful to reef set ups, some say it has no negative effect on a reef. My company sells UV Replacement Bulbs, If you follow Aqua Ultraviolet UV's instructions, It says not recommended for reef tanks. If you look into the scientific data coming back from Aquarium DNA testing that is now available through a few companies, I think there is good evidence that the claim is true.
UV is very useful for water clarity, algae control, and parasite control. Bottom line is, at what cost to your Bio Diversity.

Hope this helps.

You all have been very helpful in sharing and weighing my options. I appreciate it.
This is an awesome community.

I have more questions about pipe sizing and bulkheads with German-made equipment. Just need to find the right place to post my questions.
