You doing bricks for donors? I’ll take a brick.
We haven't started anything like that yet :)
But I will push for it and I will let you know if we start up someting like that!

Sorting corals and I can't seem to get it like I wanted to  Some are 1cm and others are 25cm. So big colonies goes in one place, and frags in another. Then I also want all species in both systems, just in case one of them crashes. So three places to sort up all species into. Or I might leave that idea, because that just too much at the moment

The Euphyllia was easy. They are all here at the moment.

Here's an Acropora florida, one of five frags. Have had problems getting frags from this colony to stay alive, hope that changes now.
This colony sat directly under a 1000W metal halide not long ago.
View attachment 1088275

Here I've tried to gather Acropora nana. We have a lot, all from the same original colony I think. They've been growing well for say 8 years, so we've had them in most tanks. I've put the rest in system no two.
View attachment 1088280

Here's an Acropora tenuis. Also a species where we had one colony, and when I took frags from it they refused to survive, for 2-3 years. Now we got around 5 small colonies and 15 frags, all doing well, so finally I feel safe about this species.
View attachment 1088282

Here are frags from a great Acropora species who tolerates both high and low nutrient levels! And we've had it for many years, so now we have many colonies and frags from it, from 1cm to 30cm. Anyone knows the name? Gets pink tips under strong light.
View attachment 1088295

And Acropora tortuosa. All from the same small colony we got from a hobbyist about 8 years ago. Wasn't until this week I realised this was the Blue Tort that I've seen so many writing about :p Now this genotype is well adjusted to the life at the Aquarium, so these we also got a lot of.
View attachment 1088296

And here's another Acropora I don't know the name of. Let me know if you know the name please! Switching from purple to dark purple.
View attachment 1088303

Now the rest of the sorting will have to wait until next week. Hope all of you will have a great weekend!
Didn't you have a bunch of DNA testing being done this past summer? Have you made any efforts to keep that sample data connected to the proper coral as you've moved them into the temporary systems?

Yes we did, but I can't read the result :D I need my coworker (the DNA expert) to rework the data we got back from the test. After that we can get the data in to a DNA databas and see if we get matches. He's been pretty busy this year(well, he is always busy) :) But thanks for reminding me to remind him!

I have a "coral library" with photos and a number for each species. Only done Acropora and Montipora so far. But that way I hope we can keep track of most of the samples. I did write numbers on each coral plug for a while, but I think that's all messed up now since I reuse plugs from dead frags

I wish all you nice people lived closer to Gothenburg. Then I would beg for new fun frags all the time! ;)
"Give us a frag and get one back if your tank crashes "

Or maybe it's time for us to spend some money on new species!

If I live there, and I can get frags that way, my tank would be crashing every week . :)

Which sponge is this? Is it easy to be maintained in reef aquarium?

I just call it a blue sponge, I'm not good at proper names, sorry.

I believe it can be maintained in any aquarium if you find the right source, except possibly low nutrient systems.
Hopefully I might be a good, this has been in 2 aquariums in England for about 5 years, with me for about a year.
Fresh imports appear to have a high mortality rate.

Is this the common blue sponge , that usually could be seen at imports from Indonesia? I thought it was difficult to be maintained as most of the sponges......if it wasn't the ban, I could give it a try...

Food for thought, when new aquarium ready and creatures ready to add, see if anyone want to adopt a fish or coral, for the benifit of the new city aquarium, and maybe a right off on taxes. Also see if you can do a Webcam on one tank to see it mature, in good and bad times.

And on Webcam you can ask to donate. Free advertising for money $$$$$

+1 on this and @Hemmdog 's suggestion for sponsor bricks.

Many ways to pick up additional funds from people!

Nothing new so far this week. The aquariums are doing well and we, the staff, mostly disassemble old tanks and cleaning out our inventory.

Thanks again for input regarding fundraising etc. I take everything with me when discussing with my colleagues. Hopefully we will get going soon.

And here's an Turbinaria eating mysis :)

If it is the "blue/purple photosynthetic plating sponge" [emoji16] it grows in most conditions.
Including growing in 40 nitrate and poor lighting.
Got ours from a torn off piece and wedged it in the rocks.
Grew about an inch before I dropped a bottle of calcium 1in the tank. [emoji849] It melted away after a few days.

Don't forget to celebrate World oceans day on Saturday! :)

We will set up a small cold water tank outside the museum, with sea stars, urchins and crabs. Perhaps a coral frag station for people to try out gluing a coral. We might even let some visitors check out the temporary Aquarium, if they're not too many :p
IMG_7879.JPG

We've celebrated WOD for many years, so we want to do something this year as well. Even though the museum is closed.

Just to make it extra-entertaining I'd insist on the participants sniffing the glue before gluing the frags! ;Hilarious

Happy World oceans day! :)

Here are a couple of pictures from today.

We had a small tank and some drawings and inspiration pictures for the new Aquarium.
A couple of aquarists came by, so they got a tour in the temporary Aquarium as well.

The reason we are outside is the rebuild. Everything (except the temporary Aquarium) is a mess at the museum right now :)

They are pretty big. At least 15cm in diameter. Edible ones. But haven't tried :p (more common to eat urchins in Southern Europe I think. We prefer our pickled harring ;)).
