That was my point. Looking for pictures of people's soft tree corals that are photosynthetic. While different species may look very similar, it would be useful for people like me)

In my unprofessional opinion and hobbyist experience, the more polyps the stereonephthya has, the more likely it is to be photosynthetic. The smaller the polyp, more likely to be litophyton. The colored sclerites, Chromonephthea (although there is argument whether this actually exists and isn't just stereo). Large widely spaced polyps are more likely to be non photosynthetic. But like I've said over and over and over...with some of these specimens the differences are so minute that it will take DNA to truly speciate them. I and others can only go on what we observe with the naked eye since that technology isn't available to the layman.
For the best chance at nabbing stereo or stereo like colonies, look for those supporting bundles (thorns). While Lito can have them too, the stereo tends to be more pronounced.

I now have quite a bit of this propagating in my main display on its own. It's interesting the places it prefers to grow and it isn't on the rocks.

Where are you able to find these unusual softies?
I have one stereonepthya (I think), but am trying to locate more varieties as well as some more oddball soft corals.
I guess I'm sort of an oddball myself, so it only makes sense.

If I had to guess, yes, it looks like stereo. Especially with the yellow tips on the branches

I guess I'm sort of an oddball myself, so it only makes sense.

Lots of calling around mostly and paying out the nose to get them from out of state. Lately, and for the first time since I've been on the site, Live Aquaria has had what looks like some stereo, but a lot of it also looks like litophyton and they are just calling it stereo.

No, that Koji Wada Nephthea. At least one variety of it. I've found some differences in several specimens from tank to tank. But then, corals can change morphology pretty quick in captivity.

A cousin sent this to me to take care of it for him till he gets back to the states. Looks like stereonephthya. it stays open mainly when the lights are on. it'll stay open in the dark but more often when the lights are on.

I know. I'm really tempted, but don't want to pay the $50 shipping fee. They don't have much else in stock that I'm looking for to get me up to the $299 free shipping. Maybe some blue cepistularia....hmmm...thinking...

Ok thoughts please people, my new "nepthea" has been expanding more each day and was nearly at a point that just a few polyps were nearly showing yesterday.
When it collapsed last night it did so touching my lobo!
I am inclined to leave this and see what happens, would you frag the branch off anyway?

just read through all 12 pages. looks like I am in the right place I love LOVE these soft corals. I am setting up a new tank red sea 650P and do my aquascape I was keeping these in mind.
look like I will be ordering a nice batch of marine farmers once tank is up.
I had the C.R blue Solomon & a pink stereo or nethea not sure but I loved it, lost it along with all most corals in a silly tank move. still bummed about that 2.5 years later.
