Hello, picked up this mushroom coral over the weekend. After placing it in the tank I noticed what almost looks like a white slime over the middle of the coral. I can’t tell if it’s just what the coral looks like and I was too oblivious when I bought it or if something is wrong with it. Can anybody identify if it is something to worry about or not? The “slime” has been there for 24 hours since it was in the tank.

Thanks in advance,
- Sam

Hi Sam.

It appears that your mushroom coral is bleaching. Do you have any other corals in your tank?

Yes I do have a ton of other corals, including mushroom corals and they are all doing fine. I guess I should have done a better job at checking before purchasing him. Can the mushroom recover from it? My parameters are stable and everything else is doing fine in the tank or is it a kinda cut my losses kinda deal?

Yes, it can be saved if put in the right lighting and flow.

@WalkerLovesTheOcean Thanks again for your help a little while ago, the coral looks amazing now. No bleaching to be seen! And its color has gotten even better now since when I bought it! It also seems to be getting ready to split into two different mushrooms! Your advice saved the thing so thank you!
