Meet big boy. Got him/her at around 4 inches, now about 8 give or take. Still gets punked by my lawnmower blenny though lol
Blenny punking the tang for the sheet/food lol. It doesn't know its size haha.(sometimes the blenny gets wrapped up in the full sheet and tumbles around if caught in the powerhead current LOL, I only have a suction cup clip and the tang is too strong so i don't bother)
I have had big boy for about a year, id say 8-10 months. They grow pretty fast and having the "sailfin" makes bigger then other fish its same length. The fish pictured next to it is a 4-5 inch Ornate Leopard wrasse, which just looks tiny next to it.how long have you had big boye? I got my sailfin about 6 months ago and he’s 4 inches now.

wow I figured that must have been a few years of growth!
Most juvenile tangs can grow 1-4 inches in a year, after that they begin to slow. I’ve had Sailfin and hippo grow 3+ inches in a year.
If you start with a 2-3 inch tang more than likely an inch per year maybe two is the range.
Some fish such as dussumeiri tangs can grow several inches per year for the first few years.
Most other zebrasoma tangs seem to grow more slowly, 1” per year max until about 3 inches and then .25-.75 per year thereafter slowing as they age.
Of course with tangs the amount of food and quality of nutrition play a large role.
Does anyone here have a blue face koi tang? I’ve seen the pics online of them out of water, but would love to see one in someone’s Tank!
