Meet big boy. Got him/her at around 4 inches, now about 8 give or take. Still gets punked by my lawnmower blenny though lol

Blenny punking the tang for the sheet/food lol. It doesn't know its size haha.(sometimes the blenny gets wrapped up in the full sheet and tumbles around if caught in the powerhead current LOL, I only have a suction cup clip and the tang is too strong so i don't bother)

how long have you had big boye? I got my sailfin about 6 months ago and he’s 4 inches now.

I have had big boy for about a year, id say 8-10 months. They grow pretty fast and having the "sailfin" makes bigger then other fish its same length. The fish pictured next to it is a 4-5 inch Ornate Leopard wrasse, which just looks tiny next to it.

Sadly no, thats the reason sailfins require a 180 minimum, as they grow so fast(despite what some sites say). Mine has grown at the rate Hippos grow who grow extremely fast themselves. Sailfins can get to be almost a foot and a half if its a Desjardini version, regular is only slightly smaller. Some sites say sailsfins grow slow and I will call that false flat out with my own picture/video proof.

Here is another quote from one of the mods on the forum, his also grew around the rate as mine grew. Im sure some will grow slower, but don't expect it, and always expect the worse to be prepared.

Most juvenile tangs can grow 1-4 inches in a year, after that they begin to slow. I’ve had Sailfin and hippo grow 3+ inches in a year.

If you start with a 2-3 inch tang more than likely an inch per year maybe two is the range.

Some fish such as dussumeiri tangs can grow several inches per year for the first few years.

Most other zebrasoma tangs seem to grow more slowly, 1” per year max until about 3 inches and then .25-.75 per year thereafter slowing as they age.

Of course with tangs the amount of food and quality of nutrition play a large role.

Does anyone here have a blue face koi tang? I’ve seen the pics online of them out of water, but would love to see one in someone’s Tank!
