My little girl is fascinated with the aquarium. I'm gonna take this and run with it and have something we can do together. That being said, she's got her heart set on a seahorse. Before I decide or move forward does anyone have any experience with them. How difficult are they to keep? What do i need to know or consider while thinking about this? Are they reef safe? Thanks all in advance

They are reef safe but often times need a species specific tank because they don't do well with high flow and since they don't move as fast as other fish often don't get enough food in a tank with other species. That being said, I have no experience with them but that is some of what I read when I considered getting a couple.
@parroki would be a good local resource.
I think they require minimal flow, and, a continual supply of suspended food items.

Get you some gorggonia, nice macro algae, make sure there are lots of "hitching posts" you'd be wise you hatch you some brine shrimp for a steady supply. Have to keep up with water changes with the constant feeding they require.
Pipefish make good tank mates, a Mandarin to.
Have to be careful with corals, don't wanna sting the little guys.

J you and your daughter should call and visit. We have 9 or 10 seahorses in my wifes tank. She can answer all your seahorse questions. There are several small fish you can have with them. Biggest issues are to much flow and competing for food with other fish.
