Definitely do some research and agree the anemone may have a tough time. But adding the clowns this early is not an issue. BRS actually recommends it in their 5 minute aquarium guide (which would also be a great place to start your research). Clowns will actually help your tank cycle by adding minimal bioload. I started my tank April 30th and added clowns the first day the tank was full. 3 months in they’re doing great and the tank is cycled. BRS 5 minute aquarium guide is a great starting point though. Ideally to watch before setting up a tank. But now you learn as you go. No big deal. Have fun with it.

I’m not sure what you mean when you said the filter came loose what kind of tank is this and what kind of filter?

One other thing. You have those plastic plants which were originally meant for freshwater tanks. They used to have metal weight in the base which is not good for saltwate especially inverts. If they plastic only then should be ok.

Most people won't have anemones in their tanks until 6 months or more. Your tank needs to have more of an established micro biome before having one.

Hi everyone, I’m 5 days into the salt water tank adventure! Yesterday around 9pm my filter started overflowing because the side arm wasn’t pushed all the way down properly. Roughly 40% of the water escaped from my tank. I filled it back up, included water conditioner also. I moved the anemone closer to the rock and the “No fishing” sign so that it could attach. My salinity level is 1.028 this morning at 8am. My anemone practically closed, you can see in the picture below. The first one is what the sea anemone looked like at 12pm yesterday, 9 hours before everything happened. The second picture is this morning at 8am.

Ug,
Welp, you heard it from the people.
The gravel needs to go along with the plastic, all the plastic. Plants, signs, ect, all of it. It's for freshwater and salt is really harsh on that stuff. It will start leeching all kinds of dyes and stuff.
Rock, if it is meant for saltwater, can stay.
Can I see a pic of your filter?
Bring back the clowns and anemone and whatever else live stuff they sold you and don't step back in that store, ever. They saw you coming with money in your hand.

Do some research here about starting a tank.

Also when you will buy the next anemone make sure it is a type that hosts clownfish. There are some good articles on internet on compatibility between different types of clownfish and different anemone. It’s not easy to match them.

Yes, I agree. If the livestock you've bought so far is still alive, I would try to return it. Additionally, I would look into how to cycle your tank before thinking about anything else. This should be your priority at this point. Here is a popular thread on Cycling an Aquarium. There are lots of other helpful threads about this topic and beginer topics in general. You can search for them in the search column. Also, I would suggest starting a tank thread so that we can follow your progress and answer any questions you may have. There is a link in my siguature on how to start your tank thread.

This is a beautiful and exciting hobby, and I can understand being ready to get the ball rolling, but I, too, have had to learn that in this hobby, nothing good happens fast. Good luck!

Honestly you should not have any life in the tank at only 5 days after filling it with water, and honestly and straightforward, you will be lucky if anything lives. I usually wait 3-4 weeks before adding anything a new tank.

From the little picture I see this tank is not built like a reef tank, so you did not try to replicate its normal environment.

Sorry if I sound critical but this is a complex hobby that requires lots of research for success or else its not fair to anything you put in the tank.

Agreed!! This tank should not have any animals in it yet at all. It needs to cycle, then the clowns, but you are several months away from being able to sustain an anemone. Please take all back to place of purchase and get the tank properly cycled. Then start with the clowns.
