Well said and 100% agree. I think accepting this and learning how to work with what you have is the most important thing. I also find having a sense of humor about your quirks a very valuable tool.
I definitely agree and appreciate this. Due to the way my youth was so hmm.. chaotic, I pretty much withdrew from things. Ironically it was my mother who got me professional help. I’ve learned.how to take myself quite a bit less seriously, especially with those who’ve known me for a bit. It also helps to be able to lose myself in watery worlds. Also will help to get another purry furbaby in 2-3 weeks.

If we could all be as empathic as our fur babies, I wonder what life would be like? They truly know how to express love and affection.

What kind of kitty are you getting? I want a British shorthair in the future. My Scottish fold hopefully has quite some time left, she just turned 9 this month.

The two we had were basically just moggies. Calico shorthair and half Abby for our second. We really have no huge preference as both kitties were rescues.

My best friend‘s wife, Holly worked for Okaloosa County’s PAWS (Panhandle Animal Welfare Society). Holly‘s job was team leader for the Okaloosa Island Ferrell cat project. She had teams that would set traps all over the island, catch the Ferrell cats and have them fixed. Then, release them again. The cats could maintain their domains, but not reproduce. If they caught young ones, they would set them up for adoption. If they couldn’t find a home for them, Holly would keep them. Holly was a true leader in animal welfare. We lost Holly to Covid two years ago. She was a wonderful person and a great loss. Ron decided to move to The Villages, so I decided to move as well so we could continue our 30 years of beating each other in golf. He and his kids split up and kept all of Holly’s cats to keep them happy.

What a hero.

I love our dog and I know I’m going to be very sad the day I come home and she isn’t there to greet me as excited as a 5 year old on Christmas morning like she does everyday.

I think cats are really cool but I’m soooo allergic to them that even being around someone in public that has cats at their house makes me miserable for hours afterwards.

Understand that. I’m pretty sensitive to cat dander as well, but when it’s my turn to take care of cats, I’m all over it. Ron is the only one I trust taking care of my tank when I have to go somewhere. For me, he tells me four things to do. For him, I give him a 3 page document of everything he has to check on the tank. Haha! I got the better deal.

My wife keeps taking in strays, that's how I ended up with Bean. Although he's an amazing companion cat, his mom and dad, and all the other cats in the neighborhood, pop in constantly to our porch and pool area.

I think Shiroh was the only cat I've ever adopted from someone else. And Autumn is the only dog I've ever had that wasn't from a shelter or someone who said 'Hey, you want a dog? I can't keep him anymore'. Still, in 20 years when Bean isn't with me anymore, last pet that doesn't grow under LEDs.

Mystery solved! Bean Animal is @StatelineReefer s pet profile that he uses when he’s in a bad mood.

It’s a complicated thing because it seems like the service teaches people how to be leaders and face their fears but the whole atmosphere seems to lead to a widespread belief that asking for help is a major weakness. I really wish we took care of our veterans better after they got out of the service. Off the top of my head, I have 7 people in my life that are veterans. 6/7 of them have pretty major PTSD issues. Several of them are on disability, which was a struggle to get, but none of them have ever tried to seek any help from a therapist or medications or anything like that. The thought of asking for help makes them very uncomfortable. The other interesting thing is how different people live their lives after experiencing trauma in the military. My Brother is on 90% disability. He came back with extreme tremors (neck twitches every few seconds), sleep apnea to the point of waking up dozens of times an hour. He would stop breathing frequently and wake up gasping for air over and over and over. Usual nightmares and other things too. My brother is a hermit. He is on full disability, he rarely leaves his house and will spend months doing nothing but watching Tv. He had many opportunities including an awesome job at Microsoft, but when things become a serious commitment, he seems to purposely evade/run away from the situation in extreme ways.

My BiL is very active. He got back and stashed firearms in every nook and cranny in the house. He will not go anywhere without a firearm and won’t fly because he can’t have a firearm on his person while he flys. He actively pursued a career as a police officer in the most dangerous areas on the night shift. It’s almost as if the chaos makes him feel comfortable.

Sorry, talking about this a lot, but it’s important to me. I was not in the service but I see a lot of veterans around me feeling alone and too proud to ask for help so I like to talk about it whenever I can.

This describes me to a T. I have to actively make myself get out of bed each morning. Then while at work, I just focus on the task I'm doing, nothing else. If I have an issue, and if I feel like there may be any type of confrontation, I immediately start having an anxiety attack, and actively try and leave the area. I have to work hard to overcome it, and usually can't.

The chaos makes perfect sense also, if there's chaos, I'm to busy to think of or react any certain way except how I'm trained. I'm on my 3rd job in 3 years now. Granted my last one laid me off due to their internal company problems, but it was probably not far behind anyway.

I'm. Doing a little better with this one, because I'm close to home. And they gave me 4 weeks of vacation to start. But it's not easy. Most nights I only sleep a few hours.

It's not easy to overcome, I'm glad for all the support I get. I wouldn't be around probably if it wasn't for them.

When everyone around me are in total chaos, that’s when I become the calmest. It’s like they suck up all the bad vibes in the room and I relax. Allows me to focus and lead without going mustang myself.

Need opinions on this guy. It’s a no name freebie that I’ve had since February. Originally blue and yellow. Lost all its color and I thought it was a goner, but it’s still here and fluoresces brightly under UV at night. About a month ago (after the big 50% water change), all its polyps came out and they are still showing excellent extension. But, no color yet. The little arms on the sides are growing longer. I assume it’s healthy, but wondering why it’s still almost white. Can’t figure out how to understand what’s going on with it. Picture is fuzzy because it’s a good bit away from the tank side and the polyps are every where with the flow on.

Acros can take a while to color back up if they lose it in tank. They usually lose some during shipping but that recolors quick. If iodine, iron, potassium, phosphate, nitrate are good it should start coloring back up with time.
