Lovely!! I loved my cattleya! Did not love NJ thoughJust thought I’d throw this in for your namesake. They just started opening this morning. Will have a better shot in a couple of days. C. Mareeba Tiger.
Oh, I think I have the humidity covered here in HoustonIndirect light and hunmdity. That's why they love my window near the kitchen sink. I have thenm in bark, but I'm experiemening with plating one of them in coconut coir. I cook rice everyday. I use the water I wash the rice with to water the orchids. They seem to like it.
I think if you have seen the emerald crab on it, it might have damaged it while stealing food. Maybe some mysis landed on it and while the torch is trying to pull it in to its mouth, maybe the emerald is trying to pull the food out.
I have one emerald that is plucking the food out of the mouth of my bowerbanki and will be removed if I can catch it.
Don’t think so. 7 years ago I gave Kelly the original plant. 5 years ago they moved and she over watered it and killed it. Fred had stopped producing them. Kelly got ahold of the International Horticulture Society folks and ask if they could help her find someone who had them. They were all over it and found several people in the US who had them. Several sent us back bulbs so we could restart Kelly’s namesake. The second picture I posted above was one two sets of those back bulbs. That is amazing. Yeah those are some serious dad points. So that orchid isn’t available for me to buy anywhere online is it?
I consider Fl humid. It's very dry here in Coloradowhich is not nice for my girls eczema. Rice is the staple in my house. I buy 50lb bag at a time. It's just hubby and I with our 2 little girls. So a 6 cub capacity does us wellOh, I think I have the humidity covered here in Houston
What would you consider "humid" though? For instance, with my AC cranked and a large dehumidifier in my home, I keep mine around 45-50%. I would imagine that's more humid than a lot of places. Also, you water them everyday?
It looks like we need to group fund a nice, large rice cooker for you if you're having to make it every day! My wife makes it ever 2-3 days with ours. She's Korean so rice is a must in our house too!
Get a whiskey glass, a frag plug, a rubber band, and a piece of shrimp from the grocery store. Break off a piece of shrimp the size of maybe half a penny, use the rubber band to wrap it up real good around the frag plug stem so that most of the surface area of the shrimp is covered (keeps some meat attached to the plug even if other critters go after it but still releases the smell of food), put the shrimp plug in the glass, and position the glass next to a rock where the crab calls home. The glass just needs to be taller than the width of the crabs legs and it can't get out once it climbs in for the food.I think if you have seen the emerald crab on it, it might have damaged it while stealing food. That's how I get the Guerilla Crabs out of my Tampa Bay Live Rock whenever I order it. Works like a charm. This next step may not be for everyone, but I kill the crab, mix it up in my fish food, and feed it back to the tank. I know it sounds heartless, but the fact is, the food you feed your tank every day is full of other dead animals, sometimes even crabs.
You just grow it indoors. Mine grew great in Virginia. I’m almost betting you could get one to grow by your reef tank. Plants use blue and red light. They prefer natural 5000k, but any good light source will work.Lovely!! I loved my cattleya! Did not love NJ though
Awesome, because with all this talk about flowers, I think I know now how my wife feels when I talk about corals.TIme to choose auctions are 5ers and 1ers
will then run some flash auctions stay tuned this is happening today
I live in Texas too, don’t do anything special for humidity, but I guess I don’t run a dehumidifier and don’t know what my humidity is at currently. Oh I guess I can look in the app. Um mines at 50% exactly right now. I water once a week or every other week if it’s still pretty moist and keep it in a window.Oh, I think I have the humidity covered here in Houston

Lol you’re spot on though. My parents turned on a YouTube video of a reef to show off their new Tv yesterday and my classifying of all of the coral was boring them to death.I'm just teasing again, when I get bored, my posts should come with disclaimers.
Ok good deal! I think you're up near Dallas, yeah? It's a little less humid, but y'all definitely get the gulf breeze as well.I live in Texas too, don’t do anything special for humidity, but I guess I don’t run a dehumidifier and don’t know what my humidity is at currently.
