Another random question... 70 inch long by 30 inch wide tank. How would you guys light this? I have 32v reefbreeders I can incorporate into the new build. I'm thinking kessil ap9x on each side and the 32v in the middle
Billy would tell you to throw 4 Vipar300s over it. ;)

Do you already own the Ap9x?

Factors:
How tall is the tank?
What corals are you planning?
Where is the overflow?
What type of rockscape are you planning?

30 deep is a challenge. You can elect to build your rockscape centered in the tank and run a single row of lights parallel above it. This uses the fewest lights but leaves the front and back in less light. Alternatively you run lights perpendicular and add more.

The RB32 says it provides a coverage area 24x36. The Ap9x says 24x36. You could run them as you describe, especially if tou have an internal center overflow.

Look at the Reefi Uno as an alternate to the Ap9x. I believe there is some cost savings there and those lights are supposed to be excellent.

For deeper tank, Kessil A500X is also an option

It's 21.7 inches height wise so good for my short arms haha. I'm planning mostly SPS with maybe some torches towards the bottom. Overflow is external midline, so full tank no internals.

We are building the rockscape this weekend. I'm thinking 3 larger structures with my live rock base in front as islands.

Agreed, the 30 inches is great but makes lighting a challenge. Will look at the reefis for sure. I may add led straps back and front down the line

That sounds like great dimensions for a tank.

If you pull the rockscape up off the back wall you can center a single row of lights over the top and still keep your desired corals. I did mine this way due to an internal overflow and actually regret it a little - too much dead space behind the rocks that I would rather have as open sandbed up front.

If you keep the left and right scape towards the back and pull the middle one up a little you could look to run the RB32 parallel in the middle and 2 additional left and right perpendicular to cover more of the 30" depth. Anything like the Reefi, Ap9x or XR30 footprint would fill those spaces well.

The addition of LED bars is what I am considering at this point or possibly adding a couple of Reefis and running 5 lights perpendicular.

Should work. I’ve got a ReefBreeders Photon v2 32” with the ReeFi on a 48” long tank. I also have a 24” Blue/UV ReefBreeders Lumen Bar attached to the Photon.
