I dunno i even tested twice. I was testing daily beforehand and keeping it between 8.4 and 8.8. Added reef flux and the next day came home and saw several unhappy corals and one blasto that was half white skeleton ( it was nice and fluffy the evening before). Checked the alk and it was 11.2. Then tested again to double check because i thought i goofed the test up. Stopped dosing for 3 days and it came back down to 8.9.
Wow...that's crazy. If it ever happens again then try to bring it back down a little slower..a 2.5 swing up and then back down in 3 days can be brutal for coral. It's definately a no no for sps but I'm not sure the effects on lps. Sps takes about 4-5 days to see the results though. Glad you caught it!

One of three @SBB Corals Eternals Mushroom bounced last night so I decided to take a picture of the Joker Anemone.

Hey, it makes sense in my head. I tried getting a picture of the bounce but that was a no go, so sorry.

I think I had RTN set in this morning after I left for a doctor's appointment. Everything looked fine this morning, PE out. Torches extending.. now... One of my oldest acros is a complete skeleton, same with other three original that I've had in for a few months. Everything is stressed and not looking good. All parameters look good. Trying to find out what happened. I am so bummed out right now :(

Thanks for the info I’ll definitely take it down slower if it happens again. I read that Reef Flux can cause an alk spike and im assuming that is what happened. Luckily i have all LPS and softies right now. I did end up losing a blasto and have noticed the gonis and euphyllia havent been extending as much ever since i added the Reef Flux and had the spike. The tank is only 10 months old and I have already completely rebuilt the sump once and going to make one more big modification to get a larger skimmer in it so im definitely not ready for SPS yet.

Odd that it hit so quickly and params are good. Anything sprayed/cleaned near the tank? Check wires for exposure, magnets etc?

Same thing I was thinking, everything looks in spec. Nothing that I know of has been sprayed around the tank. Getting ready to start filling the 30% water I just took out back in

It can be many things.

I would sent in a triton ICP Asap to see if it is anything you can detect.

when this happens to us we use chemiclean exactly the directions on the box.

Every few months some of our acro RTN for no reason. We then use chemiclean and it seems to stop RTN.

Thanks guys! I do plan on seeding in an ICP to definitely tell more. Currently doing a 30% water change. Hoping all my LPS make it, some our stress sliming. But all prams I can check are in speck. So I'm just confused on what stressed the system :(

Ya'll still rock and I loved the frags I received! I'm hoping some make it through, but unfortunately it looks to have hit everything. The Sour patch kids is completely white skeleton looking already, same with the cherry unicorn that had amazing PE earlier :crying-face:

for the new saltwater you make with your RODI system. do you know what your TDI is coming out of the tap, and when is the last time you changed all the filters and the membrane?

On well water. But tds on the output is always showing 0-5tds on the digital meter I have.

My filters were new 3 months ago. I think they state every 6 months to change, but wasn't sure.

we never ever let the water go into our tank if it is more then 0. we change our filters monthly now.

maybe the new water you are making is not good and you need to change filters?

this has been a big issue for some reef keepers.

i would suggest changing all

I will order some new ones going in! I'll get a TDS check on my water before the RODI filters to see TDS also.

Do all tds meters not have an in and out?
My fixed tds meter does, but my handheld is an in, out, sideways, and midstage as far as I'm concerned. Some people got what they got.
