changed my GFO and Carbon today
I use to run GFO mixed in carbon. I stopped one day and increased my carbon dosing. Now my phosphates hold around .15 and I dose DIY nitrates once every couple of weeks.

I occasionally run some carbon, just in case, you know kids and all ....ya never know what might land in the tank.

Hubs agreed to buy the printer if I painted some things he didn't want to so I thought I should pop in and see which programs are the ones to learn.

What program do you use? It looks like many options.

I love your tank! It looks almost identical to the one I'm trying to restore, just in a different size. Haven't seen many other Oceanics with the built in black background panel. They seem pretty rare these days
Thanks a ton! Agreed, I keep seeing fewer and fewer out there on the 2nd hand market.
I was nervous about going white but the new Krylon paints are great! especially with a light sand beforehand.
Are you going bigger?

I need to get my recirculating cap on the skimmer if anything, for the smell!

I had never considered painting the trim on mine. Definitely need to think about that possibility now. The one I got is 84"x18"x24", and holds 160 gallons. The back glass on mine is in really rough shape. The black back panel allowed water to get behind it, and it really etched the glass pretty bad. I had to remove it, and the corner overflows, to clean out all the stuff that was growing back there. Currently leaning towards building a new back panel and overflows for it, possibly setup as a full coast to coast style overflow, but not 100% certain on what my path forward is going to be on it yet. Long road ahead...

I use TinkerCAD.com but I keep thinking about checking out Fusion 360.

Also, Cura is the Slicer I use but everyone recommends Prusa. I had to upgrade my computer to run Cura so I may go with Prusa instead.
I get better print quality with PrusaSlicer, I know my settings are the same between the two but it just gives better quality. Less stringy, but probably 10% slower

The problem I have is with smaller detail prints and I still can't get everything to adhere to the bed. I'd say 3 out of 5 fail to stick and the rest stick good and I have to Wait for it to cool to remove.

I did that X-Wing kit again yesterday and two of the pieces failed but the rest of the print was almost flawless. The failed parts weren't attached to the print bed even though the rest was almost breaking when I tried to remove it.

Did a bunch of stuff!
  • I sucked all the sand out of my sump! Hope I found where my nitrates have been sequestered...
  • Built an egg crate box to hold my media off the bottom of the tank to improve flow and water contact.
  • Changed my UV bulb because it had stopped working.
  • Replaced the Skimmer and Filter floss roller extension cord with one that is grounded for the skimmer.
  • Tried my new Filter Floss roller (it failed) then went back to my old roller... I changed the side it mounted on to how it was before so I can put the skimmer in the second chamber.
  • Removed the used filter floss material from the collection roll.
  • Tuned the old roller to better keep the media aligned.
  • Replaced the ParlgaeScrubber lights, mesh, mesh holders, and water wand with the new versions of those items from the changes Adam suggested based on his usage.
  • Remade the new parts of the ParlgaeScrubber to send to Adam.
  • started mixing another Brute can of Saltwater.
  • Reinstalled The ParlgaeScrubber into the sump.
