Hi, this is my 1st rodeo so I’m sure it’s a simple answer. I got my RODI system making water and I’m ready to mix in salt. They sold me the Red Sea salt bucket and the only reference I can see on the label is total volume.
48.5lb / 171-147 gallons / @30-35ppt

Im interested in making 4 gallons. I divided 48.5lb by 147 gallons and get .329gl then multiply by 4 and get 1.319lb of salt.
Is anyone able to correct me on this if I’m way out in left field.

If its easier and I know not super precise way to do it but It's about 1/2 cup per gallon. So about 2 to 2 1/4 cups.

I typically start low, so add in 2 cups of salt for 4 gallons. Then check the salinity after it mixes for 15 min and add or dilute as needed.

Approx 2 cups of salt will mix about 5 gallons of water. I mix this, then test before adding to the tank. You have to test the salinity before using it.

Red Sea salts are roughly 148-149 grams per gallon of water.

Cups and scoops are not consistent or precise IMO. Weighing salt makes it so much easier and you know salinity is good 99% of the time. It can even help catch if your refractometer starts to drift
