I have a 300 and 200 watt heater in between both reefs. I’ll have to get a separate one for at least the discus tank as well
So probably at least 600 watt generator I guess. Just answered my own question I guess

Heaters draw a lot and will chew through a battery backup in no time. Unless you meant a gas or propane generator. You also have to factor in any startup or surge wattage.

so my total consumption with pumps (ectotech M2 at 50% speed about ~40W) / heater (300W) / lights (2 sky& radion couple hundred W) & all in everything else (gyres, vortechs etc) is about 700W on my 85 gal. without heater or lights its about 120 ish W. For a 300W heater and few pumps you probably want at least 400W. Heater is going to draw it's full wattage when it's on. if you want to run multiple tanks larger... a few battery powered air pumps go a long way for freshwater especially in summer where don't need as much heat

I live in an apartment on third floor so gas powered is out of the question
You could focus on powering the return pumps and wavemakers. I think flow is more important than anything else when the power goes out. Unless it’s freezing out and the power will be out for a while.

Looking into battery powered generators on Amazon. How many Watts? Is 300 enough to run pumps and heaters at least?
No maybe a pump. You heaters are probably 400w or more. I have two soo 800 watt plus 60 for return pump. plus 30 percent wiggle room.

That’s a good deal. I’ll have to consider that one.
Careful generators say this all the time :
1400W Max Starting, 1100W Running Super Quiet Inverter Generator
This means it is only really 1100w.

Yeah. The higher number is for surge/startup. For something like a fridge, heat pump, ac unit that kicks on and draws a lot.
