Hello everyone, I recently bought an RODI unit from Amazon, LiquaGen 75gpd, and after 50gals, the DI resin is now all orange and my water now reads an average of 150ppm when it was 0ppm, I already returned it and received another one with the same results, I can’t get a reach of their customer service, I did everything the instructions say, my pressure is at 60, my water temp is 75 degrees F, and before it’s filtered it’s 1000ppm. Does the DI resin waste that fast?8 I need the water now for an emergency QT but is 150ppm safe for fish? The most I’ve used it 20ppm with no issues

You are starting with very high TDS water you could be exhausting your DI resin very quickly. The horizontal configuration is not a very good way to have the DI. What is the TDS of the water going into the resin?

I don’t know I’ll have to check, what prefilter could I get to lower the TDS from the initial water?

There is not one the membrane removes the majority of the tds. The prefilters are there to remove thing that will clog or damage the membrane.

I use bulk reef supply 5 stage and the DI is the last stage of the filter is that the same as this one. I have only 1 or 2 TDS by time it gets to DI portion. Last me 4 to 6 months. Which is probably in the mid to high hundreds of gallons. Check it with a name brand one to see difference.

In my water, most of my TDS is calcium carbonate

The carbon filter removes most of the chlorine

If I had a fish only system, with my water, having high TDS, I would trust a carbon filter only. And that's what I used on my first reef tank

My water is high in silica(doesn't show in TDS), which I am trying to pull out now with my RODI. I will assume that is harmless to marine fish until shown otherwise

It's harmless to me, I know that for certain

That said, if I had an emergency need of water for a fish tank, I wouldn't even bother running it through the RODI. I would stack 3 carbon filters, and get the water fast

The RO Buddie om Amazon works well for me in Bangkok and we obviously dont have great water quality here. Theyre not expemsive and conveniently screw onto your sink faucet or outdoor water spigot...maybe try ome of them?

Add more carbon stage filters so it pulls more out before you get to di stage. I’ve been using amazon rodi for years
Not sure if it'll really help all that much, maybe another 10-15 tds for another carbon stage. He's going to need a booster pump for that too since he's only at 60psi. I would try another membrane inline before the DI stage.
