Hi all,

I'm new to this forum as I am currently planning for a new build to commence sometime this year. First step is the installation of a RODI system in my garage.

Option 1 - I tie into the laundry coldwater input, and drain wastewater immediately into the laundry sink. This creates a 65ft horizontal / 5ft vertical run for clean water to the mixing station

Option 2 - I tie into a coldwater input between the laundry drain and the mixing station. This creates a 15ft horizontal / 5ft vertical run of clean water to the mixing station, and a 50ft horizontal / 5ft vertical run of wastewater back to the laundry drain.

Diagram attached below for reference.

Is one of these options better than the other in terms of wastewater and/or RODI membrane efficiency? I'd really like to avoid purchasing another pump for either cleanwater or wastewater...

Thanks so much in advanced!

Option 1:
Clean Water Run: 65ft horizontal, 5ft vertical
Wastewater Run: Short run directly into the laundry sink
Option 2:
Clean Water Run: 15ft horizontal, 5ft vertical
Wastewater Run: 50ft horizontal, 5ft vertical
Considerations:
Clean Water Efficiency:
Option 1: The longer 65ft run may lead to pressure drop and slower water flow to the mixing station. This might necessitate a booster pump if pressure issues arise.
Option 2: The shorter 15ft run will maintain better pressure and faster flow, enhancing the efficiency of your RODI system.
Wastewater Management:
Option 1: Shorter wastewater run minimizes back pressure, ensuring efficient drainage without additional equipment.
Option 2: The 50ft run for wastewater needs to be properly sloped to avoid back pressure and ensure smooth drainage. This could potentially complicate installation.
Recommendation:
Option 2 is likely the better choice for the following reasons:

Better Clean Water Efficiency:

The shorter 15ft run for clean water ensures better pressure and faster flow to the mixing station. This is crucial for the efficient operation of your RODI system and avoids the need for a booster pump.
Manageable Wastewater Run:

While the 50ft horizontal wastewater run is longer, it can be managed by ensuring a proper slope and secure installation. Use larger diameter tubing to reduce resistance and enhance flow.
Implementation Tips:
Ensure Proper Slope: Maintain a consistent downward slope in the wastewater line to avoid back pressure and ensure efficient drainage.
Use High-Quality Tubing: Invest in high-quality, appropriately sized tubing for both clean and wastewater runs to prevent leaks and ensure durability.
Secure Tubing: Properly secure all tubing along the runs to prevent sagging or kinks that could impede water flow.
Regular Monitoring: Periodically check for any signs of blockage or pressure issues in both the clean water and wastewater lines.
