Reefi user here. Have had them for a bit over a year. No complaints - they produce tons of PAR and plenty of spread. Have two of them on a 4ft tank running less than 50% each. The one I have over my SPS hits 300+ PAR no prob

No clue about the RB lights.

Ya if I need 4 Reefi lights for my tank then that’s about 2000. I could do a 35 and 24” for my 59”L for 1700 but then I’m concerned about enough PAR for the whole tank vs 2 side by side photon 48 like what X37B did for his and he had great par readings. Not sure if their edge bar would be enough to bring the par up to an acceptable level for the whole tank or not, vs just having 4 Reefi. Thoughts?

You could run 1 bar on each side to start. I got another 75-100 par on my 80 that was running 4 xr15's.
Note: there are no areas, except behind the sweeps, that get shadows with 2.
Each 50 has 20 white leds, so 40 total.
I can get a very halide look with 40 whites if I want. I do prefer a whiter look during the day.
The light has plenty of par left also.

RB is advertising a new app, maybe they figured and corrected the kinks in their system.
I've been running two 32s and a 24 photon for about 2 years and have no trouble with the app. I'm still using the old app. My sps are growing well. I think I read that Adam @Battlecorals runs photons.

I was up in the air on Reefbreeders, Reefi, or Noopsyche K7s. In the end I went with Reefbreeders as it's what I have over two other tanks and they have always been solid performers. I run a 32" unit over my 40L tank at 55% part of the day, 70% on blues rest of the day. I get consistent 350-400 PAR across most of the corals. For my new OceanGuard 605 build, I went with two 50" units.

Just so you know...

When they say 48" photon, the actual length measurement is 43".

The 50" photon measures 47.5 (I think).

You definatly want the 50" photons if you go with Reefbreeders.

Ya that makes sense. Since it might be hard to find the 50 now that they don’t make them (assuming I can’t find any online), I guess my main dilemma would be the new meridian, doing the 24 and 35 in a line (not x2 side by side) if that would be enough par, cause side by side cost would be like 3400 (yikes). Anyone think a single row would be enough par or any par readings been taken with the new lights that they can shed some light on ;). I hate to experiment with 1700 just to sell them and go with the Reefi later on.

So $1700 for something they may or may not be enough or $3400 for something that will OR $2000 for something that will without a doubt.... without all the other stuff to go through. Seems simple to me but I am bias I guess. I get it, I was debating when I came back too Reefi, Orphek, Blades, went with what seemed the best of all worlds and not disappointed at all price, power, color, controllability all in one.

Edit. I think 3 would be good tbh so $1500.

Is 3 enough for 59” long tank? Or 4 to be safe
I think 3 with the 120 lens at about 8-10" off the water would cover it well. If you go with 4 use the 90 lens and lift them higher 14-16". Heres the best part you buy 3 $1500 covers the tank well but not well enough for what you want $500 more and you have 4 and probably more power than you need.

I talked to Daniel before I bought 1 about coverage. I was going to set up my 180 we talked about the fact its a standard marineland 180 black trim and all with a canopy. He said 3 would work well for it. I ended up setting up my 80ish cube went with 1 tested it again in a canopy and decided to use the 120 reflector couldnt be happier. I will be setting up the 180 probably before the end of the year (that involves leveling the floor with cement) But I will purchase 2 more and move the one over when I do set it up. May just order 3 more and leave this tank set up too....

The Quanta Atlas / Quanta Helix combo will undoubtedly clown all current LEDs at a better price point. Spread, blend, power, efficiency, shading, and area of coverage - wont even be a competition anymore

I am very interested in the Atlas. If I didnt have a canopy I might actually go with this. It would be hard to give up the reefis though.

Could run them in a canopy no issue. Just make cut outs, could also run no shade no issue. These things will enable a single row to light a 36 no issue. Davings wil be huge on big and medium tabks alike. Also running half the wattage to get higher par than my other lights.

I grew tons of acropora in my old 8’ tank, using 4 Photon V2s, 4 footers. I hated how I had to adjust things with that stupid remote, but they’re a great light for growing coral.

However on my new set up, I am using an 8 bulb ATI.

Anyone have any insight how the new reefbreeders meridians will
Compare to the photons? They really hyped the new light as better in like every way. Not sure the price point can be justified as they are now in Stratton pro territory. Feel like it’s going to be months after release that we have a good idea on how the lights actually are. Definitely torn between reefi and the photon 50. The fact you can swap out the reefi lenses and get more coverage is a huge plus and reefi told me
Today that 3 should be good enough for high par and could add an extra light down the road for more par and coverage. So 1000 for 2 photon 50’s or 1500 for 3 reef I’d. Hmmmm hmmm

I guess how is the app vs each other, can they be controlled on the road away from home?
Can you hang a light bar on either with the mounting options they offer? I think performance wise they are probably pretty equal as far as performance, par, coral growth, and looks go.

Just curious why you would be wanting to mess with the lights this much ie on the road/ away from home control . Stability is key with sps lighting changes are honestly their worst attribute. once led is the light source it seems the water quality is more of a factor than the light itself like with T5 which is super forgiving but the water needs to be dialed running any led driven sps system, with that being said either light will do great they all work I’m running a G4pro and have a mitras in the closet (I like the mitras better) had g5 blues , really want to run the new Stratton pros and or the Dalua 4x
