Reefer Deluxe XXL 750 Build

Starting the preliminaries for the new build. The plan is to move the 150G bow front tank below to a new Red Sea Reefer Deluxe XXL 750.

Have cleaned out the new Reef Room, and having ceramic tile installed next week. Also plan to paint the room a nice peaceful powder blue.

Haven’t even ordered the tank yet. Just want to make sure the room is setup first. The room is isolated from the rest of the house, and has just that one window pictured. Looking forward to being able to cut off all ambient light, and also keep that window open during winter months, just shutting the door to the Reef Room so the rest of the house does not get cold.

Let me know of any tips you may have at this point. Will keep you posted as progress is made.

Hello, and congratulations on your upcoming build. I finally pulled the trigger on my reefer 750xxl today, should be here next week. I look forward to seeing your build.

The most important thing I can advise is read look over all of the red sea builds not only the 750's. You will find some pretty good looking set ups and tricks. I am using @Whip plumbing set up, very clean, well thought, and room for growth as far as a manifold. @Broadfield has some really cool organization tips and you can actually purchase a panel from him. Also look at your power requirements, if you need gfci outlets in that area, and is it on a bottom floor.

The Reef Room is painted. Decided to go with more of a deeper blue, as I plan to remove the black film from the back of the reefer, allowing for the wall to serve as the background. I’ve placed markers on the carpet to indicate where the reefer will sit.

The tile has been ordered and won’t be installed until early August.

While waiting for the tile, I plan to work through the plumbing details for a new AWC/ATO system. The phone outlet in the middle of the wall has a garage on the other side. It will be repurposed to feed an outgoing drain line (and onward to an outside drain), and incoming RO and SW lines coming from 65G Norwesco containers.

And here it is!! The new tank!!

LOL!! But seriously, it has taken a month longer than expected to get the tile done. Everyone seems to be doing flooring lately, and the contractors were quite backlogged.

On top of that, the 750 XXLs are currently out of stock, and per Red Sea, it will be another 2 months before they are available again. Waiting on top of waiting, <sigh>. It’s a good thing I’m a reefer, and have patience in abundance

Not to waste the time, I’ve setup the water storage tanks and lines for the AWC/ATO.

While waiting for the 750s to be available, I plan to setup the little tank above as a live rock tank. I’ll need a lot more live rock for the 750, as I plan to go bare bottom.

I’ll hook up my old DA RKE controller and probes to the live rock tank. I’ll need that controller on standby anyway for use on the 750: There will be a 1-2 month overlap where I’ll have the 750 and my current Apex controlled tank running simultaneously.

I will transfer the RKE controller to the 750 once it’s up and running, then connect the Apex to the 750 once the old reef is completely transferred and shut down.

Anyway, thought I’d provide this quick update although the actual 750 install is delayed. Will update again when they are back in stock and ordered.

But seriously, 5 months after I'd begun this project, I have finally gotten to the fun part. Many thanks to my friends at Aquatic Collection in Hayward, CA for building the cabinet and delivering the tank. Very professional and friendly folks for those who live in the area.

Really liking the dual return outputs from the overflow, and support for two return pumps. Also like the double support to the left of the controller section of the cabinet and the support brace in the sump section.

I have already removed the black film on the back, leaving just the film behind the overflow box. Very nice to see the blue walls instead of the black background. It also seemed to open up the room, making it appear more spacious. Very happy about this decision and recommend it!

Next steps for me, which I probably won't get to until the New Year, are to complete a custom Apex controller box, and complete the custom plumbing, both of which I had already begun during the past few months. Really excited to get started, but will focus on the Holiday season with family and friends for now!

But seriously, 5 months after I'd begun this project, I have finally gotten to the fun part. Many thanks to my friends at Aquatic Collection in Hayward, CA for building the cabinet and delivering the tank. Very professional and friendly folks for those who live in the area.

Really liking the dual return outputs from the overflow, and support for two return pumps. Also like the double support to the left of the controller section of the cabinet and the support brace in the sump section.

I have already removed the black film on the back, leaving just the film behind the overflow box. Very nice to see the blue walls instead of the black background. It also seemed to open up the room, making it appear more spacious. Very happy about this decision and recommend it!

Next steps for me, which I probably won't get to until the New Year, are to complete a custom Apex controller box, and complete the custom plumbing, both of which I had already begun during the past few months. Really excited to get started, but will focus on the Holiday season with family and friends for now!

Just found your build. Looks great. No way I could have waited this long. I found a cheap tank on sale Black Friday that I started a build on. It is a small project and I said I would not rush it. I already have rock coming from Tampa bay and the tank is ready to fill

I presume the overflow drains are 1”, and the returns use a 3/4” connector? I will hard plumb my future 750 with metric standard union couplers (ordered from coralvue).

It looks like you are correct on all accounts. I'm not using the delivered plumbing though. I plan to use 1" plumbing throughout, and have constructed 4 of the below, using R42221 Sump Pump Connectors and a 3/4" MPT to 1" slip adapters. Each return will go to a separate Vectra M2 using the adapters shown. One of the pumps will also feed a manifold in addition to the tank outlet. I will work on the plumbing after completing my Apex controller box this weekend now that I'm back from the holidays.

Each return will go to a separate Vectra M2 using the adapters shown. One of the pumps will also feed a manifold in addition to the tank outlet. I will work on the plumbing after completing my Apex controller box this weekend now that I'm back from the holidays.

Thanks. Do you have a photo of the single pump Y part too? I will run a single L2 and manifold off this as well. What is the Ecotech part #?

Much appreciated! I can’t locate the 3/4" MPT to 1" slips on BRS - just 3/4" MPT to 3/4” slip. Which vendor did you purchase from? Also, I find you may not need the vectra couplers but I am not sure if those couple with threads. My M2 and L2 come with 1” and 1.25” output couplers. I did purchase additional couplers as back up and I use reducing-bushing-slip-x-slips. Just FYI.

I like where you are going with this build.
I have a question- if you're using the R42221 with the overflows will that not limit the flow?
What thread tape did you use to make a good seal with the R42221 or did you silicone it?

Actually I wanted to ask you to just verify that the R42221 part fits both the 2 drains and 2 returns on the new 750 v3 because I have searched on here and found a way to use part R42221 and not worry about dropping down in size.
I also found the adapters here because the unions he listed are on a site that requires 100$ minimum order.
