Hey all

finally filled my tank, then preceded to take literally hours to try and make it quiet. I’ve actually realised that due to how I’ve plumbed the emergency and main drain together to both go into a Reefmat500, that the drain sound comes out the emergency when it’s setup properly.

heavily annoying - the only way I’ve managed to stop it is by hacking a “u” bend up - will fix this with some actual piping. Will this affect my drain, or is this absolutely ok?

I personally would not trust it but best thing to do is test it. Intentionally obstruct the main drain and watch to see what happens.

I assume that the emergency drain was just channeling the water noise straight out of the top?
How are down does the open end of the elbow go?
It may be that the shape and size is a balance between creating a syphon risk and being able to fit the lid back on.

I don't see the need for the emergency drain to flow into the Reefmat. I would seriously consider changing the plumbing.
