Talk to RedSea - or the place you bought the tank from. I would also double check your temps in your house - and your aquarium

I spoke with redsea and they sent me new return pump and skimmer pump installed both still the same problem tank is 82.5 with no heater… If I turn both pumps off them goes down to 74 which is the temp of my house… any ideas for replacement pumps that I could swap in? Also this is a brand new tank direct from redsea

If I were you - I would ask RedSea to eat the cost of a pump that works in your tank. OR - ask them to figure out what's going on - since your numbers are not 'normal' (or acceptable)

Here was their response i am really curious is other redsea max nano xl folks are having the same issue?

Dear Eric,

I am sorry to hear that you are having this issue. After replacing both pumps there is not much more I can do to assist you with this. Like all pumps, they produce heat when functioning. Being that the volume of the aquarium is small, this heat can be more noticeable.
Best Regards,
Scott

Hey Scott,

Thanks for sending the two pumps I installed both of them and the same problem. My tank is at 82.2° currently and still getting hotter. Can you recommend other pumps I could purchase to put in the Aquarium I can’t believe I’m the only person that has this problem.

I also have the ATO plus from Red Sea. I can send you the temp logs if that would help you please let me know. Thanks.

Thanks

Hi ,
I too got a Redsea Nano XL recently. Same issue mine is going to 84F. Contacted Redsea they said it is due to the pumps and I have to keep the ambient temp atleast at 72F. Even after doing it still my tank is going above 80F.
Don't know what to do.

Do you happen to have a cover on your tank - as compared to open?

I have the same tank, currently dealing with some heating issues as you. However, my temps seem to start to spike 6/6am, peaking around noon at ~80/81 and cool down 76/77 by evening time. Are you having fluctuations like this or is it at a constant 80s? Temp pattern changed around the 24th due to me recalibrating the heater.

I have the same exact setup and as soon as I turned on the protein skimmer, it went up to 82 degrees.

So…I went on Amazon and purchased an “Inkbird ITC308S temperature controller “ and a dual clip on fan. I set the controller to turn the fans on at 79 degrees and turn off at 77.

It worked like an absolute charm and has been perfect for several months now. No issues at all! I highly suggest doing this, as it is the cheapest alternative I’ve found yet, and it also helps remove gases by causing surface agitation!

I found a solution. I bought a Tunzi 9001 DC protein skimmer which fits in the rear sump remove the Red Sea skimmer now my temperature with the new protein skimmer on and the aquarium covered is right around 80° but without the cover is 78 to 79°, I feel like Red Sea should take more responsibility for this because I think a lot of us wouldn’t have bought this aquarium knowing that it gets that hot with the stock equipment

Just wanted to say, we have the same issue and we sadly bought 2 of those tanks. With the pump and skimmer running it's 82 degrees. Without the skimmer and just the pump it's 80. We've contacted Red Sea and Aqua Cave where we bought the tanks but are fearing we won't get a solution either. We didn't buy these nice tanks to mount fans on top .... Our house temp is 72.

My red sea max 260 was always HOT with the equipment no matter how much I turned the lights down. I bough an aquarium fan that hooked on the top to run during the day. Helped keep it down. I dont have the tank anymore though, sold it

We filed a support ticket with red sea and they gave us a replacement pump that runs much cooler. It is the same pump but made differently. Highly recommend going that route. We just installed the new pump a couple of days ago. We do also have the tunze skimmer. Will report back when that's installed. But with the skimmer off the tank is now at 74 with the replaced pump instead of 78.

Thank you I will have to reach out to them. That heat issue bummed me out because I bought it for the form factor with skimmer and the switches being really clean looking. The skimmer seemed to be working fairly well, was fearing I wouldn't be able to run a skimmer. So it's a different pump for the skimmer they could send you? Thank you so much for the heads up!!

Same issue for me, they didn't resolve it so I set up a cooling fan controlled by my Hydros temp sensor.

Yes, it is the exact same pump but it is manufactured differently. Filing the ticket and getting it resolved with red sea was easy. Make sure you mark the new pump and the original pump so you do not confuse them. Our living room temp is 72. With just the new pump running (skimmer off), the temp is now 74.5 or so. The replacement pump is free so worth a shot. You need your serial number and purchase invoice.
