Hi. I recently installed a ReefMat 1200 on my 220 gal reef tank and noticed something very odd. Seems that there is a large auto advance happening every day at 6p. It's frustrating because other then this and that a dang roll only last 2 weeks, I do love it :) I'm just wondering if there is some setting that I am missing that I can disable for this extensive auto advance... trying to get at least 3 weeks out of a roll as this is expensive - i really don't want to go back to filter socks :)

I took some pictures of the log to show what is happening. There is nothing at that time, like feeding, etc. I am about 100 in average a day.

Thanks!

Ope. Up the reefbeat app , click on the reef mat then look in more settings and see if advance schedule is on .

I would change it to the smallest advance setting. As to the 6pm, do you have any type of daily advance time setup.

Strange. I run a 500 but the app is the same. I've never experienced your issue. I don't know if it matters but I have my advance length set to the smallest setting.

Thanks for the response! I did not know about that setting so just changed to the lowest. wow, so your daily usage is around 23 in? wish I can get mine to be that low. I may take some additional pics of how I have mine in sump to see if I am doing something wrong - but seems very straight forward.

I'm not sure why but they seem to go through the rolls faster when first installed. Also the tank mine is on is only about 65g total and only 4 fish and a bunch of sps frags

thanks! good to know and I recall reading about unit going through rolls faster initially. I love this thing so far - but it is a concern if I need to change rolls out every 2 weeks :) it is expensive! hopefully I can get at least 3 - 4 weeks out of a roll when it settles and on my system for a while.

Generally when you use any roller for the first time it will use a lot more fleece.
Reducing the roll advance quantity might fix your issue if its not cleaning/feeding related

Guys, so I continue to see excessive use of the roll and get only around 2 weeks for one roll - which to me is crazy. I took pictures of my unit installed and marked up picture to show water level. Can you please take a look and let me know if you are about the same level or this is installed incorrectly. I average about 85 - 100 in use per day.

BLUE LINE - Water Level in Sump
RED - Water level close to engaging roll to advance
YELLOW - About the level water is at after reef mat advances.

Thanks,
Attila

That's definitely unusual but your reefmat is about 1 inch deeper in the water than I keep mine. Do you use the media basket since I didn't notice it being mentioned. When that clogs (even without media) it will cause rolls to expend faster. Theres no way your rolls should exhaust faster than they do on the tanks I use reefmats on since I feed 3+ times daily without counting my auto feeders.

Thanks for the response and sharing the pic of your unit. No, actually I completely removed the basket... it's frustrating as I would not have thought that rolls will last 2 weeks! it is already expensive if I was to change once a month :) I am not sure if raising it would do anything to be honest as I think I read that the level of water in the sump should be anywhere between the in take and sensor. When you have a full advance in the roll, how far do you see the water level drop under the sensor? it seems mine is about an inch.

Your advance rate is highly dependent on the flow rate of your return pump. I like to run higher flow in the return pump, and switched to a lighter filter media to compensate. You can do a search for alternate filter rolls on where to buy them. They’re also half the price

I have mine way higher in the water, can take a pic later, but the water level sits below the intake pipe. It is higher than what the Red Sea recommended level is in the manual.

I'm getting about 6-8 weeks out of one roll which is awesome.

I think mine drops a similar amount to yours when rolling (my advance is set for less than 1 inch) but being further submerged will cause the fleece to have more back pressure = will roll more often.

A very high bioload on a system fed with 2 vectra l2 at max. That with an oem roll the main roller gets about 32 days or so of use with very heavy feeding multiple times a day

thanks for sharing the pics and suggestions! much appreciated. I reefmat is on a riser in my sump so going to try and adjust to raise it a bit and see if it makes a difference.

On another note; I have been ordering my reef rolls from BRS and quite expensive. I wish I would of done more research before just ordering 4 rolls :) I came across Ali Express - and noticed the rolls selling for $12! I wonder how the quality is as normally I would stick with original stuff but if I can't get it to last at least 3 weeks I may give the ones selling on Ali Express a try.

See this thread. It was all the information for cheaper, good quality replacement rolls that many of us are using

Please ask for Steve and he will make rolls for you + adapters from @mackdave and you're good to go.
Much cheaper than the oem rolls.
