I tried that way and had to order all new downpipes. Didn't work out well at all. Below you will see I have the stock drain installed for testing but on the floor is my custom drain with an elbow heading out the back to go down to my basement sump (additionally). If you look close it is stock Red Sea parts I used that thread to the downpipes and return. All I did was unscrew the barbed fitting they came with, took the o-ring off the barbed fitting and placed it over the threads of the 3/4 thread to 1" slip adapter, put a few turns of Blue Monster PTFE tape (Teflon) over the threads of the adapter and hand tightened them up. No problems at all with this technique and doesn't involve cutting the downpipes which renders them useless if it doesn't work. Below is from my order at Fishtanksdirect. I ordered 2 downpipes that I ruined by cutting like your picture above and three return connectors that come with threaded barb fitting which is removed and replaced with the thread to slip adapter, done.

Sump Pump Return Connector 20-25Mm RF-425/450/525 (This is the part you need)

Aquarium Inner Downpipe Reefer 425/450/525, Max-E
42203 2 $17.00 $34.00
Sump Pump Return Connector 20-25Mm RF-425/450/525
42222 3 $22.00 $66.00

I thought you were looking for help, my mistake. I know it was a nightmare trying to get mine solved but in the end it is outstanding. Now I'm deciding how to integrate my basement sump without causing a flood if this pump fails.

Does the 450 have 1” and 3/4” bulkheads? I have a brand new manifold that I just built and would really like to use it because it has the heavy duty true union ball valves for the bulkheads. Looks like I will have to modify. Wonder if my new stand pipes and Bulkheads that I am using on the tank I am replacing would work in this aquarium..

ok i love this thread. love the original idea! pioneer credit +10 for cutting the threads off.
how did you end up making out @R&J Reefs ?
@incloud design this is what i am prepping for. is everthung still running good? i am plumbing in a trigger platinum sump next week. got the right parts. but i too am worried about leaks.

fwiw if all else fail i found another guy who follow the keep it simple stupid philosophy and while not the most clean it works amd is definately plan b!

BRS parts didn't work. I believe Red Sea part number 4608 is what I used. You remove the Barb fitting and use Teflon with a 3/4 thread to 3/4 or 1" slip depending on your setup. I'm up and running with no problems thus far. Call fishtanksdirect and they'll know what you need. Let me know if you have further questions. It's a lot more simple than I and many have made it out to be.
I wanted to ask you when you remove the 3/4” barb fitting off the end of the Red Sea Part Number R42221 (4608) what fitting did you use to get to 1” did you use a 3/4” to 1” slip or what? I ultimately want to use 1” piping and Trying to figure out which fitting I need.

Here is how simple this needs to be to go from metric to standard
Purchase Red Sea Part # 42221 you will need 3 if you want to change all 3 pipes from metric to standard
Then get yourself from FlexPVC part # 417-6127 which is a 1” spg x 25mm JIS or 1” spg x 32mm DIN adapter.
From here you are 1” and ready to roll
Took me some time to work this out but it is cleanest way that I have found to upgrade Red Sea Reefer tanks from Metric to Standard. I am sure there are other ways but this was cleanest way I have found.
