Brand new to the hobby - been eyeballing the Red Sea G2 350 for quite some time now but my LFS dabbles in Planet Aquarium (Their Crystal Reef line) and threw that into the mix. Its roughly the same size and $300ish cheaper. Thoughts? Recommendations?

As someone who has a RedSea tank I would go with the Planet if it was the same price. At the time I purchased my RedSea a compairable planet tank was about $2000 more. Just make sure you include the fact that the RedSea includes plumbing and a sump. When I added the price of plumbing and the sump that is where the value of the RedSea really stood out. It looks like the crystal reef line includes plumbing and a sump which makes it a great value.

Overall I feel the planet is a better tank. I wish I had standard plumbing on my tank and a sold stand that isn't knock down.

I think you would be happy with either tank. I like my Red Sea tank and have no complaints. I would be pleased if I had a Planet Aquarium tank, too.

I don't have any experience with Planet Aquarium, but I am in the middle of a new build on a Red Sea Reefer 200 G2+. So far, the only negative I have on the Red Sea system is the size of the sump and undercabinet sump space. It is incredibly tight once you have skimmer and reef mat installed. There is very little room for a refugium.

Being a new reefer, I think you might get frustrated with cord management on the Red Sea system and potentially overall size of your filter sump/refuge, unless you really love organizing that kind of stuff...

Thats because of the size. The larger tanks have larger sumps and cabinets. I have a reefer 170 that is tight but have plenty of room in my 300.

@Joe Glass Cages Why you don't want to have inventory readily available to ship for the usual sizes. It would definitely make a lot of em buy right away. 12 weeks wait times kills for situations like seam issues. I would have spent my 5k with you instead of getting cade if yours was available to be delivered in a week time .
