That’s not a bad thought, if I understand it correctly you suggesting passing the collected water by the resin filter before use.BTW, based on roof material used, might be cheaper longterm best use an RODI yet still not wasting water to make water and might be less of an issue to plumb. My current issue and why moving everything outdoors likely works for me. Using DI alone might get costly for some.
Due to water height. Might be enough pressure to utilize an RO membrane but not sure on that. Could have a bypass to allow excess water or just invest in a larger unit. Where I live rain sone says can fill a five gallon quickly.
Everyone’s rain collection will differ and some might need full RODI to extend DI resin use as that could be 10x by utilizing an RO membrane. That’s not a bad thought, if I understand it correctly you suggesting passing the collected water by the resin filter before use.
I’ve just collected some water coming from the roof and it’s testing 12 ppm I’ve just set another reservoir to collect rain water only without touching the roof to see the difference.
Passing 12 ppm water trough a membrane shouldn’t wear it off as much imo.
Will test it later for phosphate and nitrates too
Need to contend with forever chemicals. Those don’t just exist in tap or well and unavoidable regardless where in the world.I’ve researched this and have several rain barrels setup. Everything posted is pretty spot on .
I thought a simple carbon filter allegedly works, put I’m passing on this info, no direct experience
Doubt they exist in the rain itself and why how collected likely more important then how processed.

I think like 5-10 years ago a big storm in Louisiana sucked up frog eggs and when it rained over Connecticut a few days later they started hatching and raining frogs.Bacteria exists in almost any location that you can find water. The only way to keep bacteria out of a naturally existing source of water, including the clouds, is to filter them out.

The best water I ever tasted was the summer I spent in Boulder Co. It was like having a beer or a coke or something. You just wanted to drink it...Some people just use natural seawater, I watched a well known hobbyist in Colorado use unfiltered tap water and mentioned beneficial minerals in the water. All such choices have potential risks. Most will only consider rodi due to potential build up of toxins associated with water top offs. I’ve not seen anyone mention building a solar still.
Skipped the tadpole part?I think like 5-10 years ago a big storm in Louisiana sucked up frog eggs and when it rained over Connecticut a few days later they started hatching and raining frogs.
Then my approach would solve that since I'm using same equipment used to process tap water. No?Bacteria exists in almost any location that you can find water. The only way to keep bacteria out of a naturally existing source of water, including the clouds, is to filter them out.

Makes sense to run it through chlorine but for typical home owner might add too much complexity. Never used a well water RODI system so there must be another solution to solve for bacteria and pathogens. I know ultrafiltration is an option. Basically sediment filtration down to 0.025 microns yet rest can remain the same. Rather add canisters than pre-treat with chlorine.Tidal Gardens collects rain water for their tanks
Runs chlorine through it. Runs it through carbon filters
Then runs it through an industrial RODI system
Seems prudent
Maybe it was fish. I’ll see if I can find itSkipped the tadpole part?
Yeah I can’t find it. I just remember it because it was some type that came from the south that landed in CT.Skipped the tadpole part?
