I apologize for my laziness if this has already been stated somewhere in this thread, but is there any word on DE halides making a comeback (particularly 250w)? I run a pair over my display tank for 3 hours per day (also haveT5s and LEDs) so they still have plenty of life in them, and I have another pair on hand for when the time comes to change them out, but I have no plan beyond that. I suppose I could switch to SE if necessary, but would rather not due to the configuration of my canopy.

Thanks!

I was looking at AV99s tank thread and really liked how his blues glowed under yellowish 14k ushio.

His corals are awesome. I don’t remember what a 14k ushio looks like. I can tell you that if you want the most insane blue pop from a halide, find a 12k reeflux. I don’t think they exist anymore but that did something crazy to blue corals. It wasn’t a gradual color up, more of some kind of artificial color pop that was instantaneous.

Yes, I remember those! I have a DE 12k 250 watt reeflux from the old days in storage that still has some life on it. Don’t have a use for it right now though…. I do remember how those blues lit up under that bulb.

can I see some SPS pictures under halides ?
I’m not the best person because my tank is 6 months old, but I know what to expect from halides after a 5 year hiatus from the hobby since 1996-97, so I stick to what I know for now, and save $5k. Colors should deepen and intensity as the corals settle in and my biome matures.

They just started carrying again last week. They posted on the page before this one.

And the pink one with blue tips(4th from last)? And the yellow one behind it in same pic?
PC Superman table and that’s a colony of Walt Disney. I can’t take credit for growing it from a small frag since I bought a colony from someone taking their tank down a few months back, but it’s growing like a digitata at the moment. Meanwhile I have another frag from a vendor that grows like molasses.

looking awesome !!
I wish I had good reflectors and normal ballasts last year....
that's the reason that I decided to go with ATI 10×54w T5.

Here is my almost 2 years old tank ,powerd with ATI power module ,and 4 kessil tuna blue.
the kessil is more for the shimmer.
T5's is the main power of light.
I follow your thread. Love your tank. Nothing grows dense acros like t5. Even guys running leds find the need for t5 when their colonies get big if they don’t want to spend a fortune on blanket coverage led fixtures.

The one problem i had with t5 was the flat look to the acros. But I was running them at a time when we were running uln and didn’t realize that the ati fixtures are putting out 700+ par. I’m sure if I ran nutrient levels like I run today that would have been very different.

I like what Abe does from
coral euphoria. He removes the 2 bulb module of the Ati and replaces with led strips. I think that’s a better way to blend in some pop to the spectrum than adding reefbrites to the outside of the fixture. I have an 8 bulb ati fixture going over my growout tank that I may experiment with.

That looks great man!! Nothing beats the coverage of t5s, look those bushy sticks on top each other without shading each other!!

Thanks man !
I've been struggling in the past , when I grew SPS only with LED's .
the flat look is the reason that I added 4 kessils tuna blue at sides of the ATI.
I'm running the kessils ob 35% intesty, it's enough for extra pop.
ATI puts TON of PAR , to levels that I had to raise it 25 cm above the water surface.
I also have very good experience with Giesemann tropic 6500k bulb , it's insane at terms of growth rate .
