The marine color bulbs on eBay are actually decent. Cheaper glass? Who knows. I’ve had many hamiltons bust after a month or two of use so does it really matter? For $20 they gave out good par. I did a comparison post awhile back on them with spectrum and par.

Bottom is marine color from eBay and top is Hamilton 14k.

I’m going to throw one back into my fixtures tomorrow for a longer term test against the ushios 14ks I have in now.

Heard from a few locals that ReefBrite has all bulbs in all colors back in stock. I have not tried to order any nor confirmed this, but these are reliable folks who told me. If this is true, then build orders are being filled and stuff.

Marine Color are fine. They are brittle. I had one break after a few months of it sitting in the fixture and not being touched. The color and output was fine. They also fall off fast with probably no hope of using them more than a year, but who care if they are $20.

Here, let's keep this one going. Mh and led both, can't compare to t5. And go!

Ok all jokes aside, in the end, what someone else believes or prefers should not matter to anyone else.

Let your reef do the talking.

I totally agree. Unsolicited opinions are what ruin forums, someone always has to be right about something, etc...blah, blah..... For those of us who want to help, this is the stuff that pushes us away. Why would you inject yourself into a thread and state something that has nothing to do with the topic?
I'm currently using the Marine Color 14k bulbs and they're pretty good for the money. I bought a pack of 4 for $75 shipped and they even replaced a bulb 3 or 4 months after I ordered when I tested it out on another fixture, no questions asked, just sent me a new bulb. For eBay customer service, that's pretty good. For those looking for mh bulbs, there's plenty out there, it just takes a little work to find them.

Metal halides put out metal halide photons and LEDs put out LED photons. That's why! ;)

I ordered 3x Ushio 250w 20k from Bulbstock. They seem to have plenty. I honestly don't remember what ushio 20k look like, but I remember it being a well built bulb back in the day.

Let us know how they are. Might pick up some 400s to have.

Addendum: @aquavista99 Are you still running your Ushio 14K bulbs? Found some awesome coral shots on your thread under that bulb. Certainly didn't help my decision in not buying more bulbs at the moment, but here we go.

Post some before/after shots when you get them installed. Would love to see what they look like.
