They are non photosynthetic, meaning they have to be fed. Think about gorgonians, the photosynthetic ones from the Caribbean are more bland in color, the NPS ones from indo are bright. Same thing with these carnation or chili corals. They have great coloration but you need to feed the tank with some type of free floating food, phyto, powdered or otherwise.
