Ritz Camera has the d40xbody with the 18-55, 3.5-5.6 55-200 4-5.6 nikkor lenses for 675$, that includes the 10% off if I use paypal.

Could I take good close up pics with these..

I got a Tamron 90mm which is pretty good. No VR, and a pretty good price. Seems to be a popular alternative.

I have the Sigma and the nikon. I love them both. Either way you'll get great pics. I tried the tamron, but wasn't happy with it.

Is there a difference in the quality of pictures between the two...If not I'll will definatly go with the Sigma....

Is the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG the one you have, do you think the VR is that important or helps out while taking hand held macros.

Personally, I never take hand held macros. At the magnification you are at, there is no way to handhold and get a sharp picture. I use the Sigma 105, which has no type of vibration reduction, on a sturdy tripod (very important) and it works great. VR isn't a cure all and in some cases it will actually do more harm than good if used incorrectly.

Not really, IME. I think the Nikon is better built and faster, but you have nothing but time when shooting macros. The Sigma is an excellent choice.

Yup that's the exact one. I don't think the VR is necessary to get good shots.

Good info, but I wouldn't consider it completely true. I shoot handheld with my sigma all the time and I get great results. Not the best depth of field, but they are sharp.

These are all shot hand held with the sigma 105mm.

Not the best images, but they are good enough to post IMO. If I really want to get a great shot then I'll take out the tripod. :)

Nice shots..that is a tough choice between the two...being that the Sigma is 1/2 the price as the $760 Nikor.....

Why does this have to be so hard. This is worse than picking out the wheels and tires for my truck......

What is the deal with grey market product that I have seen mentioned????
