I just use a maxi jet or comparable Sicce 1.0 and don't concern myself with micro managing flow.
Mine is mobile so I can use from tank to tank. I don't run one full time.
Honestly, if you truly want best performance you would run it close looped in and out of the display. It works much faster that way.
