Welcome to Reef2Reef Jay, and for many of us a second home. The amount of experience, advice and expertise we all share here makes this such a great place, no doubt with your adition it's going to be even greater.

Some serious experience there, no doubt what we all wished for ourselves when we were 10 years old

Hello R2R Family!

I'm super happy to announce that @Jay Hemdal has joined our team here at R2R as a resident expert on Fish disease, husbandry and really all things fish related! He will be joining our other team members and community members who are also very knowledgeable in fish disease and discussion! It is our desire to continue to advance our community by providing the very best information to our members as possible. This is for YOU!

Jay Hemdal has kept aquarium fish since he was four. He set up his first marine aquarium in 1968 when he was nine years old. He later worked part time for many years at various local retail pet stores and fish wholesale companies while he was living at home and then during college. After graduating from college with a degree in aquatic biology, he managed the aquarium department of a large retail pet store for five years until 1985, when he was hired as an aquarist/diver (and later department manager) for the John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. In 1989, he accepted the position of curator of fishes and invertebrates for the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium. The historic Aquarium at the Toledo Zoo underwent a renovation and reopened as a completely new, $25.5 million facility in the spring of 2015. Jay has written over 200 articles and papers as well as seven books since 1981. Jay is currently the Toledo Zoo’s General Curator and has been since 2017.
