There is an 8 hr planed power outage in about a week in San Diego. I have a 65g controlled by my apex and 2 x eb832s. My powerheads are AI, return is a Varios 4, one DOS and a generic heater. I obviously have a lot of other stuff plugged in, but what size APC UPS backup should I need?

499 for 1kwh (1000w for up to an hour)
May qualify for tax credits as well
This can run your varios 4 alone for up to ~25hrs at 100% (not counting effeciency losses)

Skip the apc, it won't last long at all. Buy something like an ecoflow delta instead (preferably lfp) and plug in the most important items (return and powerheads)
So I would have to unplug them from the Apex eb832

If it’s only 8 hours....Rent from HD....they will lots of power generators.....
I have a big generator, but was trying to get something that would work for an unplanned outage when I’m gone.

The ecoflows work as a ups so you could plug in the eb832 into the battery while its plugged into an outlet (preferably with only the return + powerheads if you have 2 eb832)
I wouldn't suggest plugging the ecoflow into the apex since I don't think the amperage of the eb832 can handle the power draw if and when the battery is charging.

Okay that makes sense. Thank you!

The ecoflow supports USBC charging 20volts 60watts
I leave mine plugged into my eb832 and a powerhead plugged into the ecoflow
