Please remember that sellers on R2R are NOT allowed to ask for unprotected forms of payment (i.e. venmo, PP friends & family, etc.)

I am very impressed with this forum (R2R overall). The attention to detail for treatment of one another in the community all around is remarkable. I've been on other forums going on 10 years and joined this one recently. It has become my only stop moving forward. Solid people. Thank you!

in order to use Venmo, you have to have a debit card linked to it, once you use your debit card, you are covered,
the reason I dont have paypal any longer is because I sold a mac pro, the guy sent me 3500 dollars, he got the mac pro, 60 days later he files a claim, telling paypal it was not the right thing, sent me back a box with a brick in it and paypal flat out told me that the buyer provided them with a tracking number, case closed, there is nothing we can do
But for PayPal, you have to link either a bank account, debit card or credit card...so wouldn't you be able to file a claim with them just like you did with the Venmo incident?

not to be nit-picky but can you still offer to pay someone selling in an unprotected format? like as a buyer could I still offer that form of payment (like venmo for example) to a seller if that is more convenient for me without the seller asking?

I'm not a vendor, just selling time to time when trimming or breaking down a tank — but always asking about this as well. Even more, PayPal will send you a notice and can block your account or set up a fee ON ALL TRANSACTIONS on your account even personal if you try to avoid their fee by asking to send money as a gift. It's always better to play by the rules long term that cutting corner, but then be blocked. ;)

We highly recommend only doing this with people you know and trust, but yes, that is your option.

I'm sorry about your experience with them. I truly am. You are welcome to use other protected buyer services (and Venmo is not one), but our rule on this isn't changing. On R2R, only sale services that offer buyer protection may be used. Through the years, this is something we have learned that we must enforce for the protection of the community (We are a REALLY BIG community, and we have learned by experience that this is a necessary policy). We appreciate everyone's cooperation with the rule even if you disagree with us on it.

This type of thing is why it is very important for people to provide reviews, both positive and negative, when they do a transaction on R2R. This can be a very useful tool to, but it only works if people use it.

I encourage everyone to do a quick search on the private buyer/seller in our feedback forum.

Or, if dealing with a vendor

I wasn't complaining, I was stating the fact that some of us legit sellers have had problems with paypal and cant use it anymore, ( I am sure I am not alone) I got taken for a lot of money, refuse to deal with that flawed company any longer, there is absolutely ZERO protection for the seller, just the buyer, and with all the chargebacks people are doing its a no no for me, I have a stellar feedback from people that dealt with me in the seller feedback section, but like I said in my original reply, I try to do local pick up so I dont have to deal with the headaches.

Wish I saw this earlier.

Got an email, guy said he was the king of a country I can't pronounce, gave him my bank account info for the fortune he was going to send me, he fixed my computer and then paid him for some frags with Walmart gift cards over the phone. Funny thing that its been a week and he wont pick up my calls, it goes to some Microsoft call center, the gentleman that picks up the phone has a heavy accent, and best of all, no frags on my door step.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

What about the reputable sellers out there. I know paypal fees sucks and some times they can be as much as $30 plus the fee to transfer to ur bank. Is it ok to tell buyers they can either send through paypal or venmo?
Also I try to remind new buyers here to never send with friends or family if the seller hasn't sold any to none corals/drygoods and no feedback.
But sometimes it just helps the seller if they dont pay for fees.

you have to look at a lot of things before you make a decision
If a guy just made an account and asking people to send him money with venmo or western union and selling 1000s of dollars worth of items, that's pretty obvious, but you cant put that guy in the same category and apply the same rules for someone that has been selling stuff here for years and has a good feedback and not a single complain, just saying

I'm sorry, but no. I know Paypal fees can be frustrating, but they're actually the cost of using PayPal's service, and it's technically a violation of PayPal's own rules to do otherwise. Besides, the cost is .30 plus 2.9%, so in order to pay $30 in fees, you have to be doing $1000 in the transaction...

I get what you're saying, and we're definitely not putting those guys in the same category. However, this particular rule applies to everyone who uses the R2R marketplace forums. It's worth noting that new users have to meet selling forum requirements before even being allowed to sell. Also, as I said in the previous post, to bypass fees in a sale is also a violation of PayPal's own rules for selling using their service.

I'll say it again, this feedback needs to be visible without having to do extensive searches.
We use to have feedback score with feedback posted for each transaction in the persons profile.
