Hello, recently I introduced a new anemone to the tank. (125 gallon)

I’ve read tons of other threads and forums about the issue I’m having but I’ve not gotten the answers I’m looking for.

My anemone shrivels up into almost nothing and will stay like that for hours on end, sometimes over 12 hours at a time. Other times it’s out fully and vibrant, looking extremely healthy. Can anyone explain why is shriveling up for as long as it is? Is it normal? Does it look healthy?

I feed it a little pinch of mixed carnivore frozen food (thawed) every three days because the clowns don’t seem to interact with it at all.

Water is spot on.. I test it once a week and I’ve also typically bring a cup to my local salt water fish shop so they can test it and confirm my results.

I’ll attach some pictures, some when it’s shriveled up, some when it’s out and fully exposed, let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

This is florida condylactus and has basic requirements and looks normal. They dont tolerate high phosphates and feed mysis shrimp, not powdered food. Moderate water flow and do well with most lighting

That's not a bubble tip anemone. I believe it is a condy anemone. That's the short name for it. Anemones can act weird at times. It may be getting ready to split. Otherwise it looks very healthy to me
Split? Could you elaborate on what you mean by split. Sorry for the innocent questions I’m entirely new to Anemones.

Thank you! He gets everything you mentioned so that makes me feel better!

And thanks for correcting the name, my local shop sold me a “pink tip bubble anemone”, just checked my receipt. He was 30 bucks.

I've never had a condy anemone before. Anemones will literally split in half as a means of replication. My bubble tip has split twice since I've had it. It's pretty cool when you think about it lol. A perfect clone of itself.

30 was the cheapest they had out of all of them. I didn’t even really want one but I have two clowns so I thought it was fair to them.

Fyi, clowns do not go inside condy anemones. The condy will happily eat your clownfish. There are exceptions, of course

To answer your question, most people get a bubble tip anemone, like a rainbow BTA, black widow BTA, or a Chicago Sunburst BTA (if you got the $$$). No guarantee that the clowns will take up the BTA. Mine have ignored BTAs for years and live in a large Toadstool.

Yes, it looks like that twinspot is actually in your tank. Your LFS did you real dirty. It's practically unethical to even sell those.

That cute little juvenile wrasse is going to grow up to be a 4 foot long murder beast that will swallow every one of your fish.

Four. Feet. Long.

@Slocke can give you a second opinion if you need one.

It’s a 6ft tank. The fish will be able to swim 2ft, reverse, swim 2ft

My Rainbow BTA split into 3 overnight recently! It is indeed pretty cool. My clownfish loves it cuz now he has a whole colony to play in :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I'm sorry, did you buy a twinspot wrasse (Coris aygula)?
He came with the tank, I purchased the tank used. Guy has the receipt for him, bought it not knowing what he was getting into, he paid 400 dollars for that fish…. I figured I’d keep the fish while it’s appropriate size then find something to do with it when it gets too big. I kind of got stuck with him.
