Hi folks!
I recently rehooked my ozone generator to my protein skimmer. Previously I had it hooked up to a cheap Instant Ocean Protein Skimmer and one whif inside the sump cabinet, you can definitely smell the ozone. (No carbon on the skimmer lid)
Now I have it hooked up to a different protein skimmer, like this:

Waiting until I smell ozone, and then I was going to put a bag of carbon on the lid. However, I am not smelling ozone, even without carbon on the lid. I confirmed that ozone is coming through the tube by smelling the end before connecting it to the air intake.
So, my question is should I be smelling ozone IF I do not have a bag of carbon in the lid of the protein skimmer?

It really depends on the amount and time you are running the ozone. If you don’t smell it and know it’s going into the skimmer you should be good. I added carbon on my lid as a precaution but I only run a few hours in n the middle of the night. If I lift my lid up though I can smell it when it’s running.
