I am beta testing the brand new Redbox streaming movies service. I dumped cable years ago and have been using Netflix, Hulu, Crackle, over the air HD, and a few other streaming services. So how does Redbox Streaming stack up against Netflix? Well, it doesn't. And it doesn't look like they will threaten Netflix anytime soon with their plethora of B movies. I think some may even be C movies. They are just getting started, so we will see how they progress.

The Redbox subscription service may still be right for some of you though. If you already rent 4 redbox movies a month then you already spend over $5. It may work out if you do not already have Netflix. It is $8 a month and includes 4 DVD rentals per month along with unlimited streaming. There are a few A movies in there now, but hopefully they get more added in the near future.

Hmmm.... what should I watch??? There is Unicorn City, The GingerDead Man 3, and Bloody Bloody Bible Camp!! Who knew there was such a demand for the GingerDead Man that they felt it necessary to make three of them?? Interesting.

That's funny I've never even heard of those movies. I wish netflex amazon prime etc would get it together and get closed captioning going. Switching is not a option for me until that happens

From engadget.com:

"Most recently, the streaming giant announced that it has reached a settlement with the National Association for the Deaf which ensures that the company will offer captioning services on its entire video library by 2014. Currently Netflix has caption options on nearly 85 percent of its hefty entertainment repertoirehttp://www.engadget.com/2012/10/01/netflix-just-for-kids-comes-to-ipad/, with the outfit expected to make it 90 percent by next year and, shortly thereafter, have its full set CC-ready."

Well that's weird. My daughter has amazon prime and when we tried to use it at thanksgiving it wouldn't work. Perhaps we picked the few shows that didn't have it. Will have to check it out. Thanks!

That was about Netflix not Amazon instant video. I have Amazon as well, but Netflix is currently king of streaming.

Netflix streaming is light years ahead of Redbox. There are A list movies and shows on Netflix along with B movies, but you would just have to see the Redbox list to see what I am talking about when I say C movies. It is really bad.

I'm doing the Netflix (2 Disc and stream), Amazon Instant (But mainly got it for the shipping savings), and my sister convinced me to sign up for Hulu Plus tonight. I have no opinion about Hulu yet but I agree with Tech, Netflix is the king right now, even though they screwed me with splitting the disc at home and streaming fees.

Hulu has the best selection of TV shows. It really didn't sit right with me that I payed but still had to watch tons of commercials. I now have a home built media center that blends in with the rest of the electronics. I just use the free July on that. The kids also love playing PC video games on the 46" LED Samsung.

For those that are thinking about replacing cable or satellite with streaming, the Roku is your best friend. Show me the most expensive smart TV and I'll show you a cheap HD Roku box that will make you want to bypass the smart TV features and use this instead. It also has tons of channels, so you can say the Roku is the king of streaming boxes.
