Full Tank Shot. Sorry, taken on a whim, so there's shadowing from the shimmer (didn't turn the pumps off) and slight blur... You can see just how little of the Tunze skimmer sticks out of the left compartment. I'm ok with that!
Real nice. I the 25 lagoon and im fighting micro bubbles right now from my skimmer.

I know that skimmer does a great job but it's not happening on my tank. The Wife Acceptance Factor of that one would be very low. I'm lucky she's ok with the light sticking up from the back of the tank. The skimmer has to be low profile in one of the rear chambers. I know the Tunze 9004 will be a good choice and will work well, I would just really like it if the ghost skimmer would do a good enough job and not be a micro bubble factory. Tough decisions.

You're right - it is a bit of an eyesore! I considered the tunze to replace my ghost skimmer, but decided the weight of evidence on the performance of the one I got was overwhelming.

All in all, I wish I had gone with a sump instead of an all in one - I've had a few sump systems in the past, and miss the flexibility they afford for adding, changing, maintaining equipment.

Absolutely - AIO tanks definitely have their limitations. In my opinion, they're a stepping stone to a larger tank with a sump, or a forced way to "keep it simple." For me it's both! Just like a bigger house, we'll find a way to eventually fill that thing up, so I'm enjoying the simplicity and learning how to keep a tank stable while I wait for my "dream tank" one day - a rimless peninsula tank....;Happy

I really wanted to go with a sump system this time but my situation just won't allow it. I have a limited amount of space for the tank to fit into and the dims of the Lagoon 50 are perfect for it. Also, my tank will be on the 2nd floor of my house so weight was a consideration and ultimately the all in one made my us feel better about possible overflows and leaks with a sump. One less thing to potentially go wrong. Last tank was a 100 gallon acrylic all in one with the built in wet/dry system (it was old) so I have some experience with the tight confines of the back sump chambers. Ended up being a nitrate factory that I lost control of. Feel like I learned a lot from that experience and definitely know how to manage the rear chambers of the Lagoon better this time around. Skimmer choice and placement is really my last decision point, the rest is just installation details and waiting for the black aps stand to finally arrive.

For the back chambers, periodically I just put some floss in the over flows, and blast the sediment with a turkey baster so if gets sucked up by the return pumps, and most ends up in the filter floss, which I remove after a couple of days. I have two return pumps (one for each return nozzle) in the return chamber of my fusion 50, so getting a gravel cleaner in the nooks and crannies would be too difficult.

Just a couple of random shots... nothing new to see here... been staring at the same corals for weeks. The wife won’t let me buy anything new because we’re going to MACNA next Friday. She wants to get rare pieces there instead. I guess I can’t complain about that!!!
Great looking tank!

Euphyllia "garden" - I did things this way because I read that most euphyllia will get along nicely. Over time, this has turned out not to be the case. I occasionally come home from work to find the frogspawn reaching out and actively stinging the torch coral! I thought it would have been the other way around, if anything. I'll have to move these guys away from each other or frag the torch. I love the frogspawn - probably my favorite LPS.

Beautiful Aussie Elegance. In the second photo, half of the orange plate coral is visible, including his exposed skeleton. This guy is making a comeback after nearly dying off completely whenever chemical warfare was going on in the tank about a month ago...

I could probably spend more time with photography and pretty things up, but then I'd honestly never get around to it. Happy Monday everyone!

Finally found a thread of IM50 users...you are right I haven’t seen many around...Your aquascape is beautiful and i am hoping you don’t have a patent over it LOL....i am in the same shoe as you...i had a 6’ft long 150G that was full of colonies sps and softies...kept that tank for 6 yrs and finally it overgrew on me and i kinda got tired so SOLD everything in a month and found myself something that keeps the hobby alive and enjoy it...so i bought an IM50...it is currently in its first week of tank cycle and cant wait till its all ready to go....I agree an AIO system has its limitations but at the same time it is much more manageable and easy on your wallet...i like your mod of raising the water height in the display...

Here is my tank...

Great looking tank. I really enjoy the all in one tanks. I have a 75 gallon system with a sump and I had to downgrade to a nano cube 28 gallon. I really like how simple the all in one tanks are.

I run all aquaforest products which is similar to KZ. So i dose denitrifying and a carbon source everyday showed in pic one. I run zeolite, carbon, and gfo in a reactor shown in pic two. Pic three are the products in the reactor. I my back sump i have one filter sock whitch i put a spoon full of miracle mud in everyother week, a box of marine pure balls split between two chambers, and a very modified cadlights pls50 protein skimmer. Hope this helps. Any other questions please send private message so we dont tie up this thread.
