I have a friend nearby that has that exact tank with 4 AI hydra primes and full on SPS... Acros. It is packed with huge colonies and it grows everything fine. He swapped them out from an 8 bulb 48" ATI T5 fixture to the Primes and hasn't had any drop off in almost a year.

Must not be very good spread if it takes 6 lights to cover a 47" wide tank. You could cover a 48" x 24" x 24" with 4 AI Hydra Primes and those are single pucks not dual like these are.
You're complaing these light aren't good but yet you entered in the giveaway. Nice!
Just because you didn't win doesn't mean you need to bash on the product. :)

Yeah lol. I’m super excited for these and if I hadn’t won I wouldn’t go around bashing the product.

I'm not upset because I didn't win. I have a great light already. I was thinking it would be cool to give them a try and see if they can match the results I've had with my other tanks. I just thought it was strange that 1) they chose only established tanks with large colonies to provide their lights to vs some of the other tanks that are still in grow out and 2) that they would give out so many lights to cover a medium size tank.

It's easy for a company to provide some free lights to a person who has already had another light do the heavy lifting and then post all the pics saying look at what our lights can do vs showing a new tank with smaller frags and over several months they grow and they can then say hey.... look what our lights can do. That was the whole point behind the giveaway.

If that's me being a sore loser then fine.

I see where you are coming from, but at the same time I am comparing these to a XR15Pro. 6x XR15pros are pretty well suited for a 48x26x26 sps tank.
My tank is by no means grown out, it is still in the growing phase. ;)

I apologize for the comment sounding like bashing. I am comparing these lights to say a Hydra 26 (2 light pucks single fixture). 4 of those would cover a 48" tank no problem and have great coverage and spread. I've seen very good results from just the Primes as with my friend so I was very surprised to see 6 given out for a 47" tank.

Yeah. I understand. I think they want to give us as many as they can in order to maximize growth.

It seemed you were upset. I don't have colonies and my tank is in the frag stages and Im pretty sure this light is 10x better than my Aquakight im running. I will be able to provide that info since I only have frags

Like I said... Good Luck and I'm interested to see what your experiences are over the coming months.

I do see what you mean, but this was never advertised as a “random” drawing. After looking at their selection, it appears they want to both try their lights on established tanks like mine and newer tanks. You can see that they generously increased the amount of lights offered, so that those with larger tanks could also take part.

To be honest, testing their light on my tank-which is acro dense and very demanding- is even more risky on their part than putting their fixture to a newer tank. If their light is not up to “PAR”, so to speak, I will be the first to know (brown/unhappy colonies, etc). I wouldn’t put up the light and instantly say “This light has created excellent colonies!”; I’ll post updates with photos of my sticks, videos, and PAR maps and we will see how the coloration and growth changes over time.

I also have a par meter, so will get measurements for everyone. Each of these lights are ~90w, pretty much equivalent to a Hydra 26. I personally switched from 4 hydra 26s to T5s because of acropora shadowing. The dispersion of this light will probably be superior because the pucks are farther apart, and then the quantity of 6 will provide the power I need.

My current T5 fixture is 8x54w, 400w.

Eh.. looks like they may have used some different criteria.

Will be interesting to see results.

? So we have been he the longest& have respect built up. Better for them for push their lights to people who are Moore likely to report back and use the lights well.
And please, just because you didn’t win, doesn’t mean you should go basing bpeople who did win and the company.

What?

the*, more*, bashing* , people*

I do think it's a bit shady to change their contest parameters. That's their choice. I don't think I bashed them, the company or any contestants in any of my comments. I did disagree with Harold a little on how they selected their winners.

Settle down, you won a contest and get to try some new lights.
