It’s sounds dumb but the two biggest tips I got are super simple.
1. But two refractometers and recalibrate them often. It’s crazy how often I’ll get different numbers and then one will be off.
2. Quarantine your fish. I hate it more than most but I’ve have two tanks full of fish die off when I got lazy and added one non quarantined fish

If having trouble with some corals and nothing you’re doing is working and you seem to have the right set up. Turn off your skimmer for a week or longer and watch them bounce back

I always thought you needed 0 phosphate. I was wrong. I had terrible outbreaks of diatoms and cyano. For longer then I care to admit. Then someone told me to raise my phosphate and now everything is setting down. Also, don’t chase numbers. I tried and failed to correct my ph for awhile. Coral looked fine but I wasn’t happy with my ph. Someone told me to stop checking it and add more aeration to the tank. Ph is pretty stable now.

It counts as long as it can be verified. If you've got a screenshot or something, that works. (Btw, I know NOTHING about how discord works. LOL)

Ah yeah, never mind then. To be honest, I only shared it with a friend group lol Please don't count that entry, I don't think it would count.
Thanks for the givaway by the way, good luck to the winner!

The best advice I have and that has worked for me is TAKE NOTES! Keep a notebook just for your tank. Write everything down. Write your water changes down, write all you numbers down, write anything you notice etc/ new baby polyp of zoas. You can then look back and see what is going on with your tank. I cant remember last week with the craziness of life. I can look back and see that my numbers have stayed he same, or if i changed something and the numbers changed, I can see how fast or slow coral is growing and if I moved it and the growth changed. Take Notes, make a log book

Find a maintenance routine that works for you and keep it simple. If you are constantly making changes month by month it is hard to know what works vs having the tank go on cruise control.

My advice is to really decide what you want in your tank before you add livestock. If you want reef/ corals, i'd stick with reef safe fish. My angels & butterflies were all good with coral when small. Now that they are large only certain things can go in tank. Nothing like seeing a $500.00 coral shredded in 24hrs.

Having kids can really take a toll on your tank, and I’ve seen many post sales because of it. You can get through it! Mine was rough at times but I was able to limp it along (automation helps!) The kids have loved it the whole time and now help feed the fish and love to check in on them. They’re 3 and 6 and I’m working to restore the tank to its previous glory - you can too!

I keep the fish bag in sump during drip acclimation slowly adding prime after some time I will speed up the process by poking the bag with pin in the bottom and sides Keeping in a bucket make sure acclimation is complete.

The best advice I ever received as a college reefer was about a sick fish. I had a clownfish come down with popeye after a dorm move and she stopped eating for a few days. My local fish store told me that the best treatment option was Parashield by Mardel, which is only an oil based treatment that helps their slime coat. It worked beautifully. The eye swelling went down and she started eating again. Has been healthy ever since. I use it every time I have to move the tank.

One of the Best prices of advice I have ever gotten and learned is to make sure you get your fish and frags form a reputable place or store. The first set of frags I bought where in very ruff shape when I got them and 2 of them died the first week when I asked some of my friends they said the where all bleached and where sick I dipped them in coral revive and was able to save the other 2 corals. So I guess you could say the most important thing I have learned is. Always know what your looking for and ask for help if your having problems many people in the hobby are very helpful.

Official entry. One advice I give for testing is. Keep a fresh bottle of ro/di water with you when testing in a bottle with a nozzle for quick use. Wash your testing tubes only with ro/di diligently between tests, after tests, and before tests.
