Entry 1: my advice is to buy test kits that are quick to run, easy to use and easy to read. If the test is quick, easy to do and easy to read, you are more likely to actually stay on top of your testing. With that in mind, Hanna checkers are the way to go for things like alkalinity and po4 readings.

best thing i have learned besides stability is to really take the time and not at the same time every day to watch your reef looking for anything different . be a coral and fish wisperer .you will catch the stuff your dipping missed and a lot of times before it gets bad

Some of the best advice that I've received is that there is more than one way to do something in this hobby. Ask a question and you'll receive 100 answers that all end up doing the same thing. We're not keeping livestock we're keeping the best water possible. Keep your water stable and pristine and the rest will take care of itself.

Best advice for anyone with stony coral is to test alkalinity at least weekly...no matter what! Every single week or more frequently till forever. There have been several instances where I always tested right at 9.6 every time for months on end. I'd then get lazy and not test for a month, and Bam! Alk is either 5 or 12. Seems to always be stable when your testing routinely.

Why would you want to downgrade to LED?

Second piece of advice. Never give up metal halide bulbs!
