Thank you for the join! I am new to salt, and about a year into keeping fresh ...too many tanks to mention! First salty dip is a Dynmax IQ9 step. Live in Australia. Started tank with heap of live rock (lots of wonderful critters came out ...wow), few peppermint shimp and just added some xenia and green star polyps. Wondering if I should add a lid? Any ideas? Evaporation seems pretty hard core.

The drop off is cool! I'd say as long as your ATO can keep up, don't worry about a lid. I like seeing the open water...and I don't have any jumpers in the tank. ;-)
No ATO yet...this is very much a dipping the toe in tank. If works out...i.e. no major death...then I will look at ATO next time I need to go away. I am thinking of a pair of clowns only (once cycled...we are still getting there with live rock). Do they jump?

Welcome to Reef2Reef! I love the drop-off tank! Do you have pictures from the front? And yes, I agree—I love all the life that comes with live rock. I'm not sure about freshwater fish, but there are lots of popular saltwater fish out there that love to carpet surf, so a lid is never a bad idea! I DIY-made my lid for about $20.

Welcome Cindy . Great people on this forum. I'd definitely add a mesh lid to safeguard the jumpers . I once came to check on my tank to find a clown fish chilling on the cupboard next to the tank . He survived
