Hi everyone! I am fairly new to the field of coral keeping. But for my studies and internship I am working on a super cool project. In which I have to come up with a self-sustaining aquarium for Bonaire. This needs to be an aquarium that can withstand some setbacks (power outages, storms, etc.), and thus could temporarily save itself in time of need. So that the corals that are currently in trouble off Bonaire can be preserved in aquaria, until the water quality is restored. I am currently gathering as much information as possible, and will soon be conducting interviews with experts. So I wanted to ask if you guys have a lot of knowledge and/or know others, I would love to get in touch!

You will need to factor for power outages, expected duration, and have battery or generator appropriately scaled and sized. This varies greatly depending on the tank size and equipment

Can you tell us about the tank and equipment and live stock ?
Yeah, it's early in the project (just started), so we don't have anything yet. If you have tips, let me know! In Septembre we're planning on visiting different coral keepers, the upcoming days I'll get information on how much space there is for the tank. For now I'm figuring out which corals at Bonaire need the space the most. Because the space available for now can't household them all, hopefully we can set something up around January. And I did hear that in the future, we'll get more space. Hopefully I have more info by Monday, like the size of the tank and which coral species. Than I'll focus on the equipment. I'll let u know☺️

Hello and Welcome to R2R! I have a generator that I can start if the power goes out. In the past 4 yrs, my power has not been out long enough to start the generator. I am more concerned about my two smaller tanks, the 32 and 30. I have a 180g for my main display and that would take some time before the temperature will change enough to be a concern.
