Hi Everyone,

I'm super excited to say I've set up my first ever saltwater aquarium. I bought it over the weekend, 300 ltr (and maybe 30ltr sump) Aqua one (second hand). It was already established with a selection of corals, rocks, a porcupine puffer, blue chromis, several blue legged hermit crabs, a few snails, one starfish, and a lot of Aiptasia

I had to transfer everything to my home and set it all up last night. Corals are opening and seem OK, puffer has ich I think, and after testing, my ammonia and nitrate levels are high!

A lot to try and tackle for a beginner! I changed 50 litrs sw after the move. Kept original sand and most water.

Not sure what I should prioritise first! Ammonia I guess?

I thought one of weighed in on this but Puffer indeed has Ich. While they quarantine well, you have to decide which method as they will be treated in either chelated copper or Hyposalinity of 1.009. With the hypo, bring salinity down in bit adding additional oxygen Or with copper, use Coppersafe or Copper Power at therapeutic level 2.0 For a FULL 30 days (do not interrupt this 30 day period) monitored by a reliable Copper Test kit such as Hanna Brand- No API brand. Also monitor Ammonia levels while in quarantine with a reliable test kit and add aeration during treatment using an air stone.
The display tank will have to be kept fishless (FALLOW) for 6-8 weeks to assure the existing parasites go through their life cycle without a host fish and die off

Thanks! Moving him to QT tomorrow and hopefully coppersafe will be here in next day or two. In the meantime I'll reduce the salinity as you've suggested.

Tough to wade through all of the comments, but your porcupine puffer has marine ich.

I am absolutely gutted, Eddie (my puffer) just passed away Might have only had him for 3 weeks but I am so disappointed and down that I couldn't save him in time. Only comfort is knowing he's not suffering now.

Can't help but think if only the LFS had of taken him off me 2 weeks ago when I asked them, he would have been treated and well in no time. They refused, saying he'd be dead in 2 days, and didn't really seem to care tbh.

Well, lots of lessons learnt. Hopefully won't happen again anytime soon. Thanks everyone for all the advice. Fallow period now for 76 days.

Anyone any idea what this is? First time seeing it in the tank. Looks likes strands, all going the one way, loosely moving with the current, with what appears to be lots of small eggs attached along each strand?

My turbo snails are breeding successfully in the tank (lots of little ones about, pic attached) so thought maybe them, but nope. Not sure what it could be? I've vermetid snails also, but this doesn't look like the pics of slim online, and I don't think they are any near this.

I've also noticed LOTS of pin head sized white specs on my glass and free floating... all over... not grouped... and they seem to be moving using cillia? so difficult to get a good pic with my phone, but can see it using 10x magnifying lens and my eye. They are slightly oval in shape.

I must spend at least 4 or 5 hours a day staring into my tank lol these little guys... wonder if they're parasitic? Tank has ich at the moment...
