It's all a labor of love, and a work in progress (emphasis on the progress). I'm a big guy, 280 lbs. After building I climbed on top and wriggled like a seal... she's solidWelcome,
I see a wood under a saltwater tank…
Is that finish up to par?

Hello all, and Happy Independence Day! I'm new to the reefing hobby, currently cycling my first tank. I have had my Nitrite spike and my ammonia has reduced by 50%. Getting super excited. I have what I consider to be a super budget build list and it is as follows:
Aqueon 55 gal display tank
Eshopps HOB Overflow PF 800
Eshopps RS-75 Sump
IoaoI Protein Skimmer
Smartpond 800gph return pump
Eshopps HOB Return nozzle
Aqueon 5.5 gal tank for ATO
MagTool Duetto V2 ATO system
MagTool DC Gyre 2400gph Wavemaker
2 x Hydor Koralia 2450 Gen 3 powerheads with Wavemaker Controller
All contained on and within a homemade stand. ($80 bucks worth of lumber and hardware vs $200-300 store bought)
My intentions are to start out with 2 Chinese black box LED lights found on Amazon that seem to have pretty good reviews, and then eventually work up to better brand stuff. Anyhow, Thanks for the warm welcome. I look forward to this beautiful hobby/journey and sharing my experiences along the way.
Hey DFW, thanks for the warm welcome . Still without power. Luckily my parents live nearby and do have power so my kids and I have been staying there. I'm afraid my cycle is dead, and I will have to start all over. I'm just glad I didn't rush and throw fish in there yet. You are absolutely correct about needing to get a generator. At the very least to keep a pump running for oxygen. This has absolutely opened my eyes to that.Hello and Welcome! I think you are in the suburbs of Houston, and with me in DFW, you are my southern TX neighbor! Hope you came through that recent early hurricane okay and got power back sooner than later. It seems like you are well on your way. Given where you live, you might need to invest in a generator before you get too much further along in the hobby (or maybe you already have one that you had for a fridge or something, now just share it with your aquarium.
Keep us posted on your successes!! Looking good already in your photos!
Hello Tomball, I'm glad you got power back. I got mine back yesterday. I definitely have a generator on my wish list nowWelcome! I’m in Tomball. We just got power back today. I got a generator and have had to use it twice this year. 5 days this time and a week when the tornadoes rolled through. It is so worth the piece of mind. I haven’t lost anything. Just have fish only for now though. Tank got up to 82F.
