Hello all,

yesterday i got a flasher wrasse and added it to the tank. It swam and hid under rocks until lights came on this morning. Around its tail and towards the upper body it seems to have mucus build up that resembles brook. It was swimming normally this morning but hid when i fed.

my question is would something like brook show up over night like that? All other fish seem fine im waiting for the fish to come back out so i am able to post some pictures.

Flashers sleep in a mucous cocoon. May have been part if this. How does it look like at end of day?
its been in the tank for less than 24 hours. hopefully this is the case i will continue to monitor.

How did you acclimate and how long?
They typically have an emit a mucus web and may be skin reaction
If true, will separate during the day and they restore their mucus coating

i floated the bag for 20 minutes then drip for 25 minutes.

This is the 1st wrasse Ive ever had so wasn't aware of the mucus web. Typically how long does it take to separate during the day?

Up to the fish but typically a couple of hours
25 minute acclimation not enough
Did you equalize the bag salinity with that of the display tank?

I didn't realize 25 would be inadequate yes i matched to 1.025. Do you think this is maybe related to improper acclimation? Was just mixing water for a WC would it be best to hold off for a day or so? i wouldn't want to cause any more stress.

Two things;

First, whenever a fish seems “off” less than 24 hours of acquiring it, I tell people to contact the LFS. If it has a disease, it 100% came with it from the dealer. They should share some responsibility, or at least, knowing the fish, they can advise you based on its history and the tank it came from.

Secondly; many dealers hold their fish at low salinity. Trying to acclimate a fish up from that is very stressful and often lethal. If the fish arrived to you within 1.003 specific gravity units (say 1.020 to 1.023) your acclimation was probably fine. If the rise was greater than that (say 1.018 to 1.023) you could have stressed the fish.

Not disease. Those white patches along the sides are stress coloration. Let it settle in for a few days. What size tank and what other fish are in the tank?
