Help! My new CSB anemone won't come out of its hole and stays in the dark. It has found a crevice under a ledge in the aquascape. This is the first day, it was out and looked happy.

From the second day onwards, it retracted under the ledge and now just hangs upside down, away from the light. I took these pictures at night.

It’s been hanging upside down in the dark like this for the past 3 days. It looks somewhat healthy, but I’m worried. Is this normal behavior? If so, how long can I expect it to do this? Should I try to feed it or turn down the lights? My cleaner shrimp usually hangs out there, and my two-spot bristletooth sleeps there as well. Could they be bothering it? My water parameters are all within the normal range (alkalinity 9, nitrate 2, phosphate 0.06). Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks!

Give it a couple of weeks to settle in. After that, if it's still actively strangely, you may want to look for the culprit. If you're not already running carbon on your tank, I suggest doing so. There is also anecdotal evidence that some BTAs don't to well with leathers in the same tank.

Thanks! I am running a UV but I do have some carbon on hand, I will run it. Re: leather corals, I was not aware of this. Would you suggest moving the leather coral to a different location within the tank or completely remove the coral from the tank?

it’s fine. some of my anemones took 3 weeks to come out of the dark, others never moved from the spot i put them. Let it be and maybe get concerned if there is no change after a few weeks.

I’ve also had mine close up for a day or two randomly, they’re fascinating creatures that can have a hard time settling down

post your parameters just in case though please
