Well...I guess this settles it.
I've been debating for a while witch ATO I am going to use for resetting the tank while gathering equipment.
I have been diligent in choosing and upgrading equipment that will serve me well for years to come. The features the ATK provides are exactly what I was attempting to "piece" together with different systems, duel optical sensors, float valve, & mounting. Not to mention its' learning features ans stand alone capability since I use a RK system.
Way to go https://www.reef2reef.com/members/terence.12213/ Neptune, this one looks like a home run!

FYI,
For those who didn't order yet,....

ebay has dealer selling these and now Memorial Day, ebay has 20% off coupon code up to $50 you can use to get it knock down to $159.00

I just order one from there...;Cat along with a probe holder. Make sure you add all the things you need to the cart before one time checkout via paypal as the code only work one time per user.

It seems a big disservice to apex owners who have bought your other stuff, including already using the PMUP as an ATO pump and already bought an FMK for flow to not make available parts individually. I'm definitely not spending $200 when all I need is the magnet and sensors. You're leaving a big group of people in limbo.

No limbo. I said they would be available. You just have to wait. This happens all the time with products. The new product as a set will be sold first, then the separate parts and pieces.

Individual FMM and 1" sensors had the same availability problem when we released the FMK. A few weeks later, they were more readily available.

I already invested in the FMM knowing that the ATO is coming out and I can't order the parts . I can understand getting a package deal if you by the whole system but not having them available is wrong .

I think you guys are being a bit harsh on Terrance/Neptune. This is a new product and they are still ramping up supply & production. Just because all versions & configurations of the kit are not immediately available doesn't mean they are ignoring you. Presumably most people with an Apex already have some sort of ATO setup in place. Is it that big of a deal to wait a few weeks? If you are desperate to get it now, you can certainly do so and sell the parts you don't need from the full kit.

Terrance - if you have an Apex, can you re-program which 24V port the ATO pump uses and run it off the EB832 instead of the FMM so you don't need to use another power supply?

I can't believe what people will waste their money on. $200 for an ato?
Two optical sensors, a backup fail safe float switch, one relay, and an aqua lifter pump.. $30.

I have a question. How do the optical sensors work when things like snails or urchins are crawling on them? Will those affect the operation of the sensors in any way?

I would assume so. I have my (Tunze) ATO in my sump, so it's pretty much protected from critters, but at one point I hadn't cleaned it I some time and it got dirty enough that it failed presumable a snail would do the same. They generally keep moving around, though, so even if it delays the system from coming on it should still work fine after the snail moves.

As for the cost, like many things in reefing, there are many ways to implement an ATO with different degrees of simplicity, reliability, redundancy and fail safes. The cheapest and least reliable would be a gravity fed system with a float valve. If that's your preference then fine. I could buy an Arduino controller and program my own system for less, too. The Tunze osmolator, one of the best and most popular systems on the market is also about $200. You should recognize that the system is more than "2 optical sensors, a float valve, a relay, and an aqualifter pump," though.

If you look at the individual components (Neptune optical sensors, FMM, PMUP, etc) the kit is cheaper than buying these individually. You my disagree with their pricing, but it is consistent. The Neptune ATK is another option on the market, which benefits us all. If it's overpriced the market will tell Neptune that pretty quickly.

Can you use this setup with a Tom's aqualifter instead of the pmup? I have kalkwasser in my ato and it is not advised by Neptune to use the pmup in kalk.

Using any pump directly in saturated kalkwasser will limit its lifespan. It is always better to pump freshwater into and through the kalkwasser reactor.

I don't mind replacing a pump now and then if that's the only reason it's not recommended.

What a harsh crowd! A lot of unnecessary whining. I ordered one today and looking forward to getting it. I own no APEX yet, but plan on it so I'm only buying apex ready gear in the meantime.
