So to start this off, this is not meant to be a complaint or even a call for help. Just rather me venting to people that would understand my frustration.

I’ve had my apex up and running for over a year. And up until today it has only disconnected from fusion one other time in March. That time was highly unfortunate as I had quite literally just finished setting my out of office and walking out of work on my way to a 12 day family vacation across the country. My wife had picked me up and we didn’t have the two hours to run home and back before we left for the airport. Luckily after about an hour on the phone trying to walk my brother through the process he was able to reset the apex and get it hooked back up.

All this leads to tonight. After deciding last minute to get a hotel the night before before we leave on a week long cruise we were on our way to Los Angeles. About halfway from home I get the notification… disconnected from fusion.

What are the odds that the only two times it has disconnected are the two days I am leaving for a family trip and can not check on the tank. We have a family friend watching the house but is hardly a qualified fish sitter. So until I get back let’s hope nothing else fails.

Out of curiosity will the schedule and rules still run while not connected to fusion?

Of course its when we need it that it fails. That's reefing for ya! Everything will still work as normal. If you are disconnected you wont get notifications or any alarms that might get triggered or check your dashboard or make changes. It will continue just as if it was still connected to the internet. Keep checking on it... it might connect again. I have a few friends that have this happen to them regularly. Pops back up on its own. Rarely need to do anything to get it back on line.

Do you have a camera setup viewing the tank so you can check it that way. Unfortunately I don't use Apex so I cannot answer the question. My guess is that it will continue to run without wifi or Internet connection às long as it is not the issue.

I have one adjacent so I could see major issues but nothing close up. I had briefed the house sitter to watch our for no water flow, water on the floor and lights off for multiple days. If needed I have some reefing friends I could call if he sees something really bad. Off to our cruise and hoping it’s all good when I get back lol

I usually halt the AWC schedule when I am going to away more than a day. I can also setup a second ATO if I am going to be away longer than a weekend. I also have a backup battery for my flow pumps and my controllers, router and cable modem. So even without power I should still be able to access my controllers as long as the internet is not down and the power outage does not last more than several hours. We had rolling blackouts a couple of years ago and the power was off 50% of the time and the times varied between 1hr off and 1hr off to 4.5hrs off to 4.5hrs on. That lasted for a week. I was lucky and did not loose anything even with the tank temp getting just below 70 degrees. It was below freezing outside the whole time. If I would not have had the battery backup for the flow pumps I am not sure what would have happened. At least ai will have flow pump until I can get someone to check on things since they will last over a day. My return and heaters do not work when the power is out but so far the longest we have been without power at any one time is overnight one time and we have lived in the same house since 1978.

Bought mine on sale on Black Friday last year - absolute worst purchase of 20 years in this hobby - and I've made some bad ones. Maybe I just need to vent too, but I've have nothing but failures for the first year. There is no reason any of us should be paying them to beta-test their half-baked ideas and defective hardware.

I’m in the same boat. My EB832 died a few years ago from a relay power supply failure (a well known design flaw.) I fixed it with a new supply and it died again 14 months ago. This time I purchased a completely new EB832 only to have it die again this morning, 2 months out of warranty.

For the price we pay, the least they could do is have some modicum of reliability. At this point I’m done dumping money into Apex products.
