Hi all,

I just fired up my new 6105s and they're pretty darn noisy - like a loud refrigerator volume level-wise in my living room. :)

So loud that if they don't quiet down, I'm going to have to return them. :(

The posts I've read seem to say they will quiet down in 2-4 weeks. Is that correct? It's just so loud in my living room it's stressing me out that I even decided to put them in.

I just need some reassurance. :)

Thanks,
J

Is it just straight propeller noise? Or is something vibrating or rattling?

It's not rattling. It's propeller/motor noise with a reverberating vibration noise.

I found so many posts of people saying these Tunze's were "near silent", I'm hoping this is just a matter of needing to break in.

Did you attach the silicone feet to the magnets?

Mine aren't dead silent but they aren't loud like a refrigerator.

Yep, sure did.

They are a little quieter after 6 hours of running, but they are not "dead" or even "nearly" silent yet.

I'll keep running them.

Make sure it’s not the cords vibrating against something. Happens with my WAV all the time.

I strongly believe a lot of different powerheads have a break-in period. I haven't had a chance to look at individual schematics yet, but even my vortechs (when I had them) were noisy in the beginning right out of the box. They weren't the quiet drive version so they're probably louder anyway....but they quieted down.

Recently my jebao OW series (pretty decent DC pumps actually) came out of the box making a horrible loud whine. I waited it out for like ~2 weeks and the sound died right off. I realize the pump designs are different, but jebao actually ripped the DC pump tech off of Tunze and got sued for it (lol).

This also happens to me, drives me nuts especially when I’m too lazy to get up and address the issue.

I have 2 6105's and can't hear them, even at max power. I did forget to put the silicone drops on the wetside magnet of one and it was noisy, but after I put them on it was silent. My gyres on the other hand, not so much. They are loud!

Anyways, I hope they settle in for you and become silent! If they remain refrigerator loud, that would seem to indicate something isn't right to me.
